I A. J. FRANK. W WARMING OVEN FOR OIL 0B VAPOR BURNING STUVES.
(Application filed my 18, 1898.)
(No Model U ITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
AUGUST .I. FRANK, OF WARSAIV, ILLINOIS.
WAR MI NG-OVEN FOR OIL OR VA POR BURNING STOVES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters IPatent No. 615,267, dated December 6, 1898.
Application filed May 18, 1898. Serial No. 681,068. (No model.)
To aZZ whom itmay concern:
Be it known that I, AUGUST J. FRANK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Varsaw, in the county of Hancock and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Warming-Ovens for Oil or Vapor Burning Stoves; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in oil or vapor burning stoves; and the object is to provide a stove of this character with an independent warming-oven for keeping edibles, plates, dishes, and the like at a proper temperature until required for use.
To this end the invention consists in certain features of construction and combination of parts, as will'be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings I have illustrated my invention in the best form now known to me, though various changes in the details might be made within the skill of a good mechanic without departing from the spirit of the invention, as set forth in the claim at the end of this specification.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of an oil-stove, showing my improved warming-oven in place. Fig. 2 is a top plan view, partly in section. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal vertical section of the oven, with the hood and burner shown in elevation.
1 denotes the oil-stove, 13 its burner, and
3 the warming-oven, removably supported on the bracket 4, which in turn is detachablysecured to the stove 1. This oven may be of any suitable size and shape, and it is provided with the usual hinged door and a horizontal shelf 5, which is formed with a series of orifices 6 6 and with a hinged plate 6, as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2, which may be thrown over the orifices 6 6 to close them or thrown back to open them and permit the passage of the heated air through them.
7 7 denote similar orifices in the top of the oven to serve as an outlet for the heated air, and they may be closed by a hinged plate 8.
9 denotes a vertical flue (preferably ovalin cross-section to economize space) fixed in the bottom of the oven and having its upper open end extending to within a short distance of the bottom of the shelf 5. The lower end of this flue 9 extends through the bottom of the oven and terminates in an elbow 10, in the horizontal arm of which is adj ustably secured a sliding hood 12, the outer end of which is concaved to partially encompass the cylin- The sliding hood 12 is provided with a radial non-conducting handle 14 for conveniently adjusting it with reference to the burner, so that more or less heated air will be conducted to the oven through the hot-air flue. The heated air as it escapes from the upper open end of the flue impinges directly on the bottom of the hot shelf, spreading under its entire surface, and then passes through the orifices 6 6 into the upper compartment, whence it escapes into the atmosphere through the orifices 7 7. When both of the valve-plates 6 and 8 are open, a uniform temperature is maintained; but if the valve-plate 6 only be closed there is then no outlet for the heat products in the lower compartment and a constant degree of heat is attained, while the upper compartment can be maintained at a much less degree of heat by reason of the supply being cut off and the heated air contained therein allowed to escape through the open valve-plate 8.
Having thus described my invention, what is claimed as new,and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is
The combination with the burner 13, of the oven 3, the flue 9 communicating with said oven, and the hood 12 adj ustably secured to the outer end of said flue and adapted to be projected into and withdrawn from the path of the products of combustion generated by said burner, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
AUGUST J. FRANK.
