SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 464,123, dated December 1, 1891.

This invention relates to stoves and furnaces, and more especially to that class thereof known as cooking-stoves, and the object of the same is to produce certain improvements in devices of this character.
To this end the invention consists of the details of construction hereinaftermore fully described and claimed, and as illustrated on the sheet of drawings, wherein- Figure 1 is a front elevation of this improved stove with the fire-box door and one oven-door open. Fig. 2 is a central longitudinal section of the stove. Fig. 3 is a central transverse section. Fig. 4 is a detail View of the ash-drawer removed.
Referring to the said drawings, the letters L designate legs supporting the body of the stove S, which latter is of any suitable size, shape, material, and construction, but embraces the following details: In the ash-pitis a removable drawer or pan 0, whose front end is enlarged, as shown, and is provided with a damper for regulating the admission of air, which damper is lettered c. This entire ash-pan is removable, as shown, and as usual when it is desired to take outthe ashes. Above the ash-pit is a grate G, forming the bottom of the fire-box A, and the sides of this box rise nearly to the top T of the stove. All theparts thus far described are located at the longitudinal center of the stove, as seen in Fig. 2.

Above the outer corners of the ovens are arranged slide-dampers D D, having handles H H, projecting through the front of the stovel The ovens are closed by hinged doors 0 0', across the faces of which are vertical straps V V ,Whose lower endsL L extend outwardly, so that when the doors are opened these ends will hold them in horizontal position, as seen in Fig. 3.
From the ends of the stove, above the outer fluescl (1 rise branch pipes f f whose upper ends converge and connect with the lower end of the main exit-pipe f In this latter pipe, at the point where the branch pipes connect therewith is located a regulatingdamper R, having a handle 1', by which it may be turned to either of the dotted positions shown'in Fig. 2. In the lower extremity of the main pipe f is a cup-shaped closure U, which may be removed'when it is desired to have access to the regulating-damper R or to clean the pipe f A fire being built in the fire-box A, the products of combustion and the heat rising therefrom pass naturally through the flues a a,
through the dampers D D, up the pipes ff, and into the main pipe f thereby intensely heating the topTof the stove and but slightly heating the ovens B B. In case it is desired to heat one oven, such as B, the damper D is closed, and this causes the products of combustion atthat end of the stove to pass through the fines b, c, and d before they pass into the pipef. If it be desired to pass all the heat to one end of the stove, the regulating-damper R is turned to its dotted position, so that its lower end will be nearer that end of the stove, and it is'obvious that at that time no heat will be allowed to pass out the opposite branch pipe. By regulating the dampers D D the heat may be divided so as to pass both above and beneath the ovens or above one oven and beneath the other. When the ovendoors are turned down, as seen in Fig. 1, the lower ends of the vertical straps strike the front of the stove so as to hold the doors in horizontal position. The closure U may be removed and reinserted in an obvious manner. Considerable change may be made in the details of construction without departing from the spirit of my invention.
What is'claimed as new is* v 1. In a stove, the combination, with converging branch pipes rising from the body of the stove and a Vertical main pipe to which said branches are connected, of a damper within said main pipe adapted to open either or both of the branch pipes, and a removable closure in the lower end of said main pipe 5 beneath said damper, as and for the purpose set forth.
2. In a stove, the combination, with a centrally-arranged ash-pit and fire-box, the sides of the latter being out of contact with the 10 stove-top, of ovens within the body of the stove each side of the fire-box, flues completely around each oven, a damper in the upper flue, branch pipes leading from the outer vertical fines and communicating with 15 a main exit-pipe, and a regulating-damper in said main pipe adapted to open either or both of the branch pipes, as and for the purpose set forth. v
