COLLAR.l
APPLICATION FILE?) NOV. 25, 1913- HOMER ROY FISI-IBL, OF RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA.
COLLAR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 16, 1915.
Application filed November 25, 1913. Serial No. 802,990.
To all 'whom t may concern Be it known that I, HOMER ROY FISHEL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Raleigh, in the `county of Wake and State of North Carolina, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Collars,
vof which the following is a specification.
vdescription are attained in a device of the character illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and the invention consists in certain novel features which will be particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the annexed drawings: Figure l is a perspective view of a collar having my invention applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the tie shown in Fig. l, looking at the rear side thereof.
The collar 1 may be formed as a part of the shirt or may be detachable as preferred and may be a stiff collar or a soft collar and is equally adapted for ladies shirtwaists and mens shirts. In the drawings, the collar is shown as a fold collar having its ends meeting at the front, and adjacent the meeting ends I form a plurality of slots 3 which extend parallel with the said meeting ends and are spaced at regular intervals at both sides of the said ends. Any desired number of these slots may be provided, it being understood, of course, that the same number of slots must be provided at each end and that the slots are so located as to constitute pairs.
I employ attaching plates ory hooks 5 which may be of light sheet metal, nickelplated to have a neat nish and prevent rusting of the collar, the said attaching plates being doubled on themselves to provide the inner lips or hooks 6 adapted to pass through the slots and engage against the under face of the outer fold of the collar. The outer member of these attaching plates 7 is provided with a longitudinal slot 8 through which the fabric strap or band 9 is inserted, thel ends of said fabric strap or band being sewed` or otherwise secured to the band, as shown clearly in Fig. 2. I prefer to employ elastic webbing for these straps or bands 9, as such material will hold the ends of the collar together and at the same time will permit the collar to yield to the movements ofthe wearer in turning his head, so that binding of the collar around the neck will be obviated. It will, of course, be understood that any desired number of these connecting bands may be employed and to impart a .finished and dressy appearance to the collar I secure upon the outer face of the lowermost band a bo-w 10, as shown.
My device is exceedingly simple in the construction and arrangement of its parts, may be rapidly adjusted, and will hold the collar in its proper position without causing any discomfort to the wearer. The fastening or unfastening of the collar is not impeded by the application thereto of my invention and it may sometimes be found convenient and even desirable to dispense with the usual collar buttons and rely solely upon the connecting bands to hold the ends of the collar together, as well as to hold the collar in place upon the neck. This is particularly true when the collar is formed on the shirt.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, is:
The combination of a collar provided with pairs of slots adjacent its meeting ends, said slots being parallel with the said ends and the members of each pair being at opposite sides of the ends, connecting bands extending across the meeting ends of the collar, and attaching hooks passing through said slots to engage the inner surface of the collar adjacent the slots and provided in their outer portions with slots to receive the ends of the connecting bands.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
