TOP-SPINNING- DEVICE.
Specification of Lettersl'atent.
Patented Dec. 15, 1914.
Application filed November 6, 1913. Serial No. 799,501.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LoRINoz BARBALIGZ, a subject of the King of Hungary, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Top-Spinning Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improvement in top spinning devices.
The object of the inventionis to produce.
a device of this character that will be simple and neat of construction, and easy of operation.
With the above and other objects in view as will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists inthe novel construction and arrangement'of parts of a top spinning device, as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification and in which like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts :F igure 1 is a perspective view of the device, showing a top so arated from the holder. F ig. 2 is a longitu inal sectional view, displaying the position of the top relative to the holder, when in spinning position. Fig. 3 is a to plan view of the holder. Fig. 4 is a longitudinal sectional view through the top.
Referring to the drawings, 1 designates the body of a top, here shown as of gong shape, and rovided with a spindle 2 rigidly secured to the body, preferably by being riveted thereto, and having its outer end reducedto provide a peg 3 and at its inner end, adjacent to the body formed with a squared portion 4;, the intermediate length of the.
spindle being cylindrical, as clearly shown in Fig. 1.
The holder comprises a handle 5 rovided at one end with a circular head 6 aviuga central orifice 7. Secured to the head is ,a top support designated generally 8, the same being a three sided structure made from sheet metal, the top 9 being provided with a central orifice 1O alining with the orifice in the head, the orifice; 10 being provided with a lateral cleft 11, constituting a cord pas+ sage, the side 12 being provided with an outturned flange 13 that is secured to the head 6 by a rivet l4, and the sides 15 being provided with an out-turned flange 16 that is secured to the handle by a rivet 17.
In the use of the device, the cord C, shown in Fig. 2, is wound about the spindle, being started at the squared portion 4 in order to obtain a firm grip upon the spindle, the winding being continued to a point adjacent to the peg, and then reversed. back to the squared portion again. When the winding is completed, the spindle is inserted through the orifice 10, the cord passing through-the slot 11, and the peg 3 projecting through the ee W orifice 7, the body resting upon the top of the support. Upon the cord being quickly withdrawn from the spindle, a very rapid rotary motion is imparted to the top, and by giving a slight downward motion, the top 1s caused to detach itself from the holder and fall to the floor, or to any other suitable support, where it will spin for a considerable time.
From the fore oing description, it will be seen that while t e improvements herein de-l scribed are simple in character, that they will be thoroughly eflective for the purposes designed, and will co-act in the production of a cheap and highly diverting toy.
What I claim as new is g A holderfor spinning-tops, comprising a handle having a head at one endprovided with an orifice, and a skeleton top-support:
secured to the head, and laterally slotted orifice alimng with the orifice of the'head. I
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses- LoRINoZ BARBALICVZ. Witnesses: I
