TOBACCO-LATE( HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
PatenterdNov. 10, 1914.
Application led October 28, 1913. Serial No. 797,729.
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, J Aoo M. ZooK, a citi- Zen of the United States, residing at Zooks Corner, in the county of Lancaster and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tobacco- Lath Holders, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
`My invention relates to a device for hold-` inga lathon which tobacco stalks are hung in harvest time, and to hold the lath while t-he stalks are being stripped from them.
The object of the invention is to provide a device that shall be cheap, durable and efficient; and by the use of which both time and labor may be saved.
With these and other objects in view, my invention consists in certain construction and combination of parts as will hereinafter be fully described and claimed in the anneXed specification, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this application, and in which like figures of reference refer to corresponding parts in all of the views; but it is fully understood that while I have here described my invention as shown, that I do not confine myself to the exact design, as slight changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of the several parts without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings: Figure 1, is a side elcvation of the device mounted on a table or bench, and showing a lath in place; the side being partly broken away to show the retaining part. Fig. 2, isa top plan view of the same. Fig. 3, is a front end elevation, and showsl t-he method of removing the lath after the tobacco has been removed therefrom.
Referring to the drawings, the device comprises the base plate 1, which is provided with the attaching pin 2, for attachlment to a bench or table top 22, or wagon body. To the upper side of the base plate 1, and'near one end thereof isattached the side plate 3, which is formed with the beveled end 4. To said side plate 3, is attached by the bolts 5, the side platev, which is spaced therefrom by the collar 7, placed on the bolts 5; said Vside plate 6, is also beveled at 8, and does not extend down to the base plate 1, but is spaced therefrom as shown in Fig. 1, but less than the width of a lath. Between said side plates 3, and 6, is mounted a retaining pawl 9, on the bolt 10. `The lath 11, is inserted between the beveled ends 4, and 8, and is engaged by and retained from being pulled out by the retaining pawl 9.
When the tobacco stalks 12, have all been removed from the lath 11, said lath 11, is turned sidewise, as shown in Fig. 3, and is thus removed through the space betweenl the loweredge of the side plate 6, and the base plate 1, without having to operate the pawl 9.- It will thus be seen that the device is very simple andl eliminates all springs,
levers or 'hinges which are employed in other" devices for this purpose.
Having `thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Lety ters Patent is 1. The combination in a tobacco lath holder, of a base, a sideplate securedthereto, a second side plate secured to the first side plate and spaced from saidside plate JACOB M. ZOUK.
