Description
Letters Patent No. 111,570, datedFebrnary 7, 1871.
IMPROVEMENT iN PORTABLE SWINGS.I
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom 'it may 'concern Be it known that I, DANIEL M'. REYNOLDS, of the city of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Portable Springs; and l do hereby (ieclare the following to, be a full, clear, and exact description ot the same, reference being had to the acin which v Y y Figure l is a side elevation, and Figure 2 is a front elevation. Similar letters of reference in the drawing denote like parts. A
, The object of this invention is to provide for public use a neat, simple, and convenient portable swing', which can be readily set vup and taken down, requiring no supports but its own frame, and which can be packed in a very small compass for transportation.
This object is accomplished by the devices oonstructed and operating as hereinafter set forth.
In the drawingv r lr' are rounds of nearly equal length, terminating companying drawing forming part of this specification,
at each end in pins of' journals, and connected by side "bars b b to forni the base of the frame.
a a are two bars, longer than b b, and connected at their lower ends to the journals of round r.
, o c are two similar bars, connected at their lower ends to the journals of round rl, the uppenends of the bars a a c c being all connected to a third round, r2, the rounds and bars thus-forming a triangular snpporting-framc for the swings. d d are two swinging rods attached to the round fr2 and supporting the seat S, which is held between the two rods, its weight restingupon shoulders formed on their' inner sides forthe purpose. The seatbeiug Y thus supported is held firmly inv position bynieans of I' preferred.
a cleat, s, on the side otthe seat, which touches one edge of the bars and an eccentric or button, s', which `can be fastened over the other, thus clamping the rods firmly to the sides oi' the sea The seveilal bars ct I) c (l are all connected to the rounds by means o`;the'jo\1rnals on the latter, which vpass through holes made in the ends ofthe former, and are secured by pins or' nuts u u. Washers w w may be interposed between the several bars connected to the saine end of any one of the rounds, it
In packing the swing-'fortransportation it is only necessary to take out the pins and disconnect bars c c from round r1, then bring the free ends of those bars alongside of the front bars au, inserting the journals Aof the front round r into the holes at theirlower ends; then bring` the round 'Irl up against the back of the pendentbars (Z d, and swing the whole forward until it is in line with and inolosed between the Outer bars a a.. The round r1 may be disconnected and placed between the bars d d, and it preferred the seat may be detached and placed in the same posipion, or packed with othersof diiierent sizes separately from the frames.
Having thus described my invention,
What I claim as new therein, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
rlhe combination of seat S, button s', cleat s, and pendent rods (Zd, having a shoulder for the support of the seat, when employed in a swing, substantially as described.
