To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOHN F RANOIS OMALLEY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Avoca, in the county of Luzerne and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Match- Holder, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The invention relates to match holders, such as shown and described in Letters Patent of the United States, No. 1,066,311, granted to me July 1, 1913.

The object of the present invention is to provide a new and improved match holder, which is exceedingly simple and durable in construction and more especially designed for holding a bunch of paper or wooden matches, and arranged to allow of conveniently fastening the bunch of matches in place and allow ready removal of a match whenever desired.

In order to accomplish the desired result use is made of a stand provided with an opening, and a pocket leading into said opening, the said pocket being adapted to receive the stub of a bunch of matches with the matches extending permanently into the said opening, and means held on the stand for removably securing the said pocket.

A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in Which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.

Figure 1 is a perspective View of the match holder; Fig. 2 is a sectional side ele-c vation of the same; and Fig. 3 is a transverse section of the same.

From a suitably constructed base A rises an upright B provided with an opening C and with a pocket D leading into the said opening G at the upper end thereof, as will be readily understood by reference to the drawings. The pocket D is adapted to receive the stub E of a bunch of matches E with the matches extending in the opening 0. As shown in the drawings, the bunch of matches E is of well known construction being preferably composed of a plurality of layers of matches extending from the stubs E fastened together by a suitable fastening the stub in place in device E eyelet or which in this case also forms an a reinforced opening E for the passage of a transverse pin F held remov ing into the pocket D. It will be noticed that the stub Eof the bunch of matches fits snugly into the correspondingly-shaped pocket D and the stub E is removably secured therein so that the matches E are displayed within the opening C. The opening O is preferably of a height in excess of the length of the matches so that any one of the matches can be readily bro-ken off from the stub E whenever it is desired to use one of the said matches. In case all the matches E have been removed from the stub -E then the pin F is pushed out of its hole G by the use of a suitable tool'H under the control of the operator and having a reduced end H adapted to engage one end of the pin F to push the same out of the hole G. l/Vhen the pin F has been removed and the tool H has been withdrawn then the stub E readily drops out of the pocketD and a new bunch of matches can be attached to the stand by placing the stub E into a pocket D and securing the stub therein by reinserting the pin F in the hole G.

The base A of the stand is provided with an opening A through which appears a scratching surface I held in place on the under side of the base A. by a plate J removably fastened to the base by screws K, as plainly indicated in Figs. 2 and 3. The match holder shown and described is very simple and durable in construction and composed of few get out of order.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
