OR CE G- ALKER, 0E NGSVI LE, JW), AS IGNQR N ALE 1W- SANDS; OE KINGSVILLE TEXAS.
M T H- LIVERING MACHINE.
Application filed December 20, 1913.
To, all whom if m ay-ooncern Be it knownv that 1 Homer C. WALKER, a: citizen of the United States, residing at Kingsvi-lle, in the county of Kleberg and State of Texas, have inventednew and use ful Improvements in Match-Delivering Machines, of which the following is a specification.
An object of the invention is to provide a machine for use in: delivering matches.
The invention contemplates, among other features, the provision of a machine of a simple character and which is preferably adapted for use in cigar stores and the like, and wherein it is desired to provide a structure whereby asingle match will be delivered to the operator each time the machine is manipulated.
In the further disclosure of the invention reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, constituting a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference denote corresponding parts in all the views, and in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the machine showing a match in delivered position; Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view of the machine; Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view taken on the line 33 in Fig. 2; Fig. 4 is a vertical transverse sectional view taken on the line 4-4 in Fig. 3; Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the delivering member.
Referring more particularly to the views, I provide a casing 10 supported on a base 11, the said casing being normally closed at its top by a preferably transparent cover 12 having horizontal sliding engagement with the casing 10 and adapted to be withdrawn through a horizontal slot 13 formed in the front face of the casing. The cover 12 is normally held in closed position by a pin 13 which, when the cover is in closed position, passes transversely through the slot 13 so that it will be engaged by the end of the cover in the event that some one endeavors to remove the cover without first removing the locking pin 14:.
The casing 10 supports an inclined board 15 rigidly arranged within the casing and terminating adjacent a horizontal opening 16 formed in'the lower front face of the casing. A delivering member 17 preferably consists of a fiat board terminating at one end in a suitable handle 18 and enlarged at Specification of Letters Patent.

itsv opposite end to provide a stop member 193 atransverse groove 20 being formed in the delivering member 17 adjacent to the inner end of the handle 18 thereof.
The delivering member 17 is arranged to slide within the casing 10 but has its handle 18: projecting through the opening 16 inthe lower front end of the casing, with the groove 20 lying adjacent to the lower end of the inclined board 15 when the delivering member 17 is. in normal position. A box of matches 21 is. now placed upon the inclined board 15, with one end of the box preferably cut away so that the matches contained in the box will gravitate on to the delivering member 17, thus causing one of the matches to fall into the groove 20 so that when the delivering member is operated and moved into extended position the groove 20 will be advanced exteriorly of the casing, thus disclosing the match lying therein so that the operator can conveniently remove the match and strike the same upon a suitable strike plate 22 arranged upon the face of the handle 18, it being understood that there is very little space between the face of the delivering member and the casing at the point of formation of the opening 16 in order to prevent more thanone match from moving outwardly with the delivering member when the same is moved into extended position. The said strike plate or igniting surface 22 engages the wall of the casing 10 and is adapted to limit the inward sliding movement of the element of the delivering member 17.
Referring to the views it will be seen that when the delivering member is moved into extended position the stop member 19 will engage the under side of the inclined board 15 and limit the outward movement of the delivering member. Therefore, each time that the delivering member is moved into extended position a single match, having previously fallen into the groove 20, will be moved with the delivering member to be exposed exteriorly of the casing and when the delivering member is returned to innermost position and again moved into extended position a second match, previously received in the groove 20, will be exposed exteriorly of the casing. In this manner with a machine of the character described a single match will be delivered to the user each time that the delivering member is operated and closed in the views; that various departures may be made from the invention as set forth without departing from the principle thereof and that the scope of the invention is defined in the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
In a match delivering machine, the combination of a base, a casing thereon and provided with a horizontal opening in its lower front end and an inclined board rigidly secured in the casing and projecting rear- Wardly and upwardly from the opening in the lower front end of said casing, said board supporting the matches passed into the casing, a flat delivering element provided With a transverse groove and mounted to slide on said casing, with a handle portion normally projecting exteriorly of the casing through the slot in the lower front end thereof, the transverse groove of the element being adapted to receive a match from the inclined board, and a stop lug extending transversely across the inner end of said element and adapted to abut againstthe under side of said inclined board to limit the outward sliding movement of said element relatively to the casing, and an igniting surface on said element on the handle portion thereof, said igniting surface engaging the wall of said casing and being adapted to limit the inward sliding movement of the element.
In testimony whereof I affix my slgnature 1n presenceof two wltnesses.
