PIN-HOLDER.

To all 20 7mm it may concern Be it known that I, JAMns KELLEY, J12, a citizen of the United States, residing at Winsted, in the county of Litchfield and State-of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Pin-Holder, of which the following is a specification.

The present invention appertains to pin holders, and aims to provide a novel and improved device of that character.

It is the object of the invention to provide a simple, compact and inexpensive device for conveniently holding a strip of pins, and whereby the pins can be readily and conveniently removed for use, the pins being normally housed within the device and being protected from dust and other extraneous matter, so that the device is sanitary in use.

The invention aims to avoid the objections incident to the ordinary methods of handling pins in trays, pin cushions, -and the like.

With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, can be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.

The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein:

Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved pin holder. Fig. 2 is a plan view thereof, with the cap or hood illustrated in section. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section taken on the line 33 of Fig. 2.

In carrying out the invention, there is employed a rectangular box 1 constructed of card board, sheet metal, wood or other suitable material, and provided with a top 2 extending from one end between its ends, to provide a rectangular or square opening 3 between the top 2 and the other end. The top or plate is provided with a longitudinal slot 4 between the sides of the box 1, and'extending from the opening 3 to the first mentioned end of the box, and said end of the box is provided with a vertical slot 5 adjacent and in alinement with the slot 4. A. square or rectangular cap or hood 6, prefer ably constructed of the same material as the box 1, is slipped snugly within the box 1 ad- Specification of Letters Patent.

jaccnt one end.thereof, to fit within the opening 3, the rim or downturned flange of the cap 6 seating upon the bottom of the box, and the cap 6 being of slightly greater height than the box 1 so that the top of the cap projects above the top of the box 1. The rim or apron of the cap 6 is provided with a vertical slot 7 adjacent and complementing the open end of the slot 4, the slot 7 extending to the top of the cap 6 above the top 2 of the box.

In use, the cap 6 can be readily withdrawn or removed from the box 1, and a strip of pins is then applied within the box, said strip being wound up in the form of a roll 8 which is slipped downwardly through the opening 3 within the box, the pins 9 being carried by the strip and having their headed ends projecting upwardly above the upper edge of the strip. The strip sets on edge upon the bottom of the box, and is carried longitudinally under the slot 4, as at 10, and the free end of the strip is passed through the slot 5. The cap 6 is then applied to the box to inclose the roll 8, and hold said roll in place, the strip passing through the slot 7. Since the free portion of the strip passes through the slots 5 and 7, the said free portion 10 of the strip is guided for longitudinal movement below or behind the slot 4. The headed ends of the pins project upwardly above the top 2, and this is why the cap 6 is of greater'height than the box 1, so that the pins within the cap 6 will be properly accommodated, while the pins carried by the tree portion 10 of the strip will have their headed ends projecting upwardly through the slot 4 so that the pins can be readily withdrawn. It is evident that the points of the pins are protected at all times while carried by the holder, and that the pins are drawn into the slot 4 when the strip is unwound. lVhen the pins are removed, the free end of the strip, which projects from the slot 5, can be pulled outwardly, to bring a new set of pins within the slot 4, the strip being torn oii adjacent the end of the box 1 as it is pulled out.

The present device provides an extremely simple, and inexpensive, yet efficient and practical means for carrying a supply of pins, and the device may be readily set upon a desk, table or other support, but need not be held in any one position, since the device can be hung upon a wall or carried in any other suitable manner or position.

Having thus described the invention what is claimed as new is:

l. A. pin holder comprising a box hating an upper opening and slot extending from said opening, said box being adapted to hold a strip of pins below said opening so that the strip can be drawn longitudinally below said slot with the projecting ends of the pins projecting through said slot and a cap fitted within said opening and having a slot complementing the aforesaid slot for the passage of the strip therethrough.

2. A pin holder comprising a box having a compartment for a strip of pins one end, an upper slot extending from said conipartment toward the other end, and a slot in the last mentioned end, said compartment being adapted to hold a strip of pins with the strip extending under the first mentioned slot and through the second mentioned slot, so that the projecting ends of the pins project through the first mentioned slot.

A pin holder comprising a box having an upper opening at one end an upper slot extending from said opening toward the other end, and a slot in the last mentioned end, the her; being adapted to hold a strip of pins below said opening with the strip extending under the first mentioned slot and through the second mentioned slot so that the projecting ends of the pins project through the first mentioned slot, and a cap fitted within said opening and having its top projecting above the top of the box, said cap hating a slot complementing the first mentioned slot and projecting above the top 01 the box.
