Description

` UNITED STATES PATENT QEETCEo LUGIUS P. BARNES, OF FITCHBUBG, MASSACHUSETTS.
|MPROVEM-ENT IN ADJUSTABLE DOOR-FASTENERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 110,821, dated January l0, 1871.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LUcIUs PHILETUS BARNES, of Fitchburg, in the county of Wvorcester, of the State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Door -Fastenerg and do hereby declare the same to be fully described in the following' speciication and represented in the accompanying drawing, of which- Figure l is a top view, and Fig. 2 a front elevation, of the said door-fastener.
rlhe purpose of the said invention is to fasten a door open at any desirable angle within the range of its motion on its hinges.
The first part of the invention is a straight bar, A, which, at its extremities, is to be secured to the side of a door by screws going through holes a a at its ends, and also through small pieces of metal or wood interposed between the bar and the door, so as to bring the bar into parallelism with the door, and at a I purpose of clamping the slider to the rod.
To the said slider is pivoted or hinged an arm or rod, D, at one end of such rod. At its other end the rod or arm D is pivoted or jointed to a screw, E, or its equivalent, which, previous to the fixing of the slide-bar to the door, may or should be screwed into the door-frame, or some portion of the building or structure nearsuch frame, and to which it may belong or constitute a part.
On opening the door, as well as while closing it, the slide will move on the bar, and, when the door is open at any desirable angle or position of the clamp-screw, be set hard up againstlthe bar, and the door will be held in its position.
I would remark that, instead of fixing the slide-bar to the door, it may be fixed to its frame, or what is next adjacent thereto, the screw being inserted in or fixed to the door.l
I claim as my inventionp The combination and arrangement of the bar A, the slider B, the clamp-screw C, the rod D, and the screw E, the said rod D being pivoted or hinged to the slider B and the screw E, all being substantially as and for the purpose and to operate as set forth. y
-LUOIUS PHILETUS BARNES.
