INVENTOR 12512? C, Ber yman/ wmtissEs 8mm! 1( UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY C. BERRYMAN, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
SHIRT.
To all whom it may concern Be it lmown that I, HENRY C. BERRYMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Shirts, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to shirts, and more especially to shirts carrying certain new and useful attachments, such as suspensories or other appliances beneficial for medical or surgical purposes, as will be more fully described in the following specification, set forth in the claim and illustrated in the drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a front view of a shirt partly broken away showing the improvement applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a front view of a shirt as it appears from the outside.v Fig. 3 shows a modified form of arrangement.
In the use of articles for surgical and medicinal purposes and adapted to be worn by the patient, the application of these appliances is somewhat difiicult on account of the use of strips and other attachments.
This invention provides for carrying and locating certain surgical devices in a convenient and comfortable manner as shown in the drawings and where it will be seen that an ordinary shirt is used made of any desired material and having woven within its front suspensory 5 of the usual type and which may be also used for carrying medicines and healing preparations for the use of the wearer. While a suspensory is thus shown, it is obvious that the device may be so modified as to use it for the purposes and in the manner above specified, and when thus located the device is given the proper support and hung from the shoulders, doing away with the serious inconvenience experienced by strapping or otherwise securing the device around the body of the wearer.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed November 15, 1911.
Patented Aug. 11, 1914.
Serial No. 660,491.
In the modified form shown in Fig. 3, the device is applied to a coat shirt and made integral with one side thereof. The outer end or flap 6 of the suspensory is carried over to the other side of the shirt and buttoned thereto. This provides for the ready and convenient arrangement of the suspensory when applying to a shirt of this character. It is preferable, however, that no buttons or other attachments be used 011 account of their irritating nature. The front of the shirt presents its usual appearance and is provided with nothing which will irritate the wearer, and the suspens'ory may be secured at the desired point either by weaving it with the balance of the shirt or stitching same to the shirt as desired.
It is obvious that the shirt may be other wise modified in this construction to provide for a more comfortable or cheaper arrangement of the buttoned parts without departing from the essential features above described.
Vhat I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is,
In combination with a shirt, a pouch having an opening, an edge portion of the pouch being attached with the shirt at the inner side thereof, the pouch also having a free edge portion which lies between the inner side of the shirt and that portion of the pouch which is provided with the opening the portions of the pouch being so proportioned that the said opening normally lies opposite the inner side of the shirt and between the free and attached edge portions of the pouch.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HENRY C. BERRYMAN.
Witnesses JOSEPH A. Donoss, JAMES CANNY.
