Be it known that I, GLENN E. ZARING, a citizen of the United States, residing at Washington, in the county of l/Vashington, State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Composition Fence-Posts; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact de scription of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to composition fence posts of the artificial stone type and Y particularlyto the manner of securing line wires to the post.
The object of the invention resides in the provision of a device forsecuring the line wires to a composition post whereby the said wires will be firmly and securely engaged with the posts through 'the medium of staples which are adapted to be driven into securing'position in a manner similar to that in which they would be applied to an ordin'ary Wooden post-.-
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the details of construction and in the arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing the invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference denote corre ponding parts in the several views, and in which- Figure 1 is a front elevation of a fence post constructed in accordance with themvention, a plurality of line wires being shown attached thereto. This staple retaining member A is embedded in and disposed longitudinally of the post 10, one side of said member being disposed in registration with the front face of the post, while the inner or minor portion of the member is bent at an angle to the major portion thereof for a purpose that The side of the staple retaining member which is disposed in registration with the front face of the post 10 is provided with a plurality of spaced openings 15. These openings are at a distance apart equal to the distance apart of the arms of the staples,-indicated at 16, which are employed to secure the line wires, indicated at 17, to the post.
In applying the line wires 17 to the post same are engaged between the arms of the staple 16 and the latter then inserted in ad- ]acent openings 15 hammered inwardly. During this operation the outer end of the arms of the staple will engage th;v angular minor portion 13 of the retaining member and as a result be bent laterally with respect to that portion of the staple arm confined within the major portion 12 of the retaining member. In this manner the staples are efficiently clenched and secured against re moval. The efiiciency with which the staples 16 are secured against removal is enhanced by. reason of the convergence of the sides of the minor portion of the'retaining member as said sides bind upon the free ends of the staple arms with increasing strength as said staple is driven into the retaining member.
