rosr.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented oct. 2e, 192e.
Application filed December 1, 1919. Serial No. 341,558.
To all whom t may concern.'
 Be it known that I, GILBERT J. BUCKNER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bloomfield, in the county of Greene and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Post, of which thev following is a specification.
 This invention relates to new and useful improvements in fence posts, and more particularly to concrete or composition fence posts. The primary object Vof the invention is to provide a composition fence post having means to permit the nailing kor stapling of fencing material thereto.
 A further object of the invention is to provide a novel form of composition nailing strip to be employed in connection with the post, thus eliminating the wooden nailing strips now in use, and which deteriorate under weather conditions.
 I/Vith the foregoing and other objects in View which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawing Figure 1 illustrates a side elevational view partly in section of a fence post constructed in accordance with the present invention;
 Fig. 2 illustrates a transverse sectional view taken on line 2-2 of Fig. l, and
Fig. 3 illustrates an end view of the same.
 Referring to the drawing in detail, the reference character 5 designates the fence post forming the subject matter of the present invention, the same being preferably rectangular in cross section, although it is to be understood that the design and formation of the post may be varied to meet the requirements of the user.
 This fence post, is constructed of concrete, and is provided with the longitudinal reinforcing elements 6, which are embedded m the body of the post during the molding thereof, the reinforcing elements being however disposed in spaced relation with each other throughout the post, the ends thereof being connected as at 7, the connections crossing each other' as at 8, and it is the purpose of the invention to position the reinforcing elements 6 under tension, thereby greatly strengthening the post construction at the ends thereof, or at the points where the connecting elements cross each other.
 A groove 9, is formed in one of the side faces of the post 5, and extends longitudinally thereof to provide a seat for the nailing, or fence securing strip 10. This nailing strip, which forms an important feature of the present invention, includes a composition comprising the combination of coal, sand, and cement, the same being properly proportioned to have a required amount of consistency to permit thesame to solidify within the groove of the post It has been found in practice that while the material of which the nailing strip 10 is formed, will harden to a degree to withstand weather conditions, the same will pos,- sess holding qualities equal to the holding qualities of wood, the coal used as one of the elements of the composition, possessing certain flexible qualities to permit a nail, staple, or other securing element used in the construction of fences, to be driven thereinto. I
 Fromthe foregoing it is obvious that in the present construction, I have provided a composition nailing strip capable of withstanding the weather, and atthe same time .accomplishing the same result as the usual wooden nailing strip now in use.
 Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is AIn a fence post, a body portion of nor mally impenetrable plastic material, a nailing strip formed integral with the body por tion, said nailing strip including coal, sand and cement.
 In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
GILBERT J. BUCKNER.
