The object of this invention is to furnish an improved four-pointed barb for wire fences, which shall be simple in construction, firm, and durable, not being liable to be jarred or knocked ofl'. I
The invention consists in an improved fourpointed fence-barb, composed of two pieces of wire bent into the form of a U, from opposite sides of the fence wire, in such a w y that the bend of eachpiece may be between he arms of the other piece, and having their arms bent down upon and around the said fence-wire, leaving the four points projecting in opposite directions, as hereinafter fully described.
A represents a fence wire, and B a barb. The barb B is formed of two pieces of straight wire, placed upon the opposite sides of afencewire, A, and bent toward each other in such a way that the bend of each piece may be between the arms of the other piece; or the two pieces of wire may be firstbent into U or staple formffiid then placed upon the fence-wire from opposite sides, in such a way that the bend of each may be between the arms of the other. The arms of the pieces of wire are then bent down upon and around the fence-- wire, as shown iii-Figs. 1, 2, and 3, clamping each other firmly and securely to the said fence-wire, and leaving the four points projecting inopposite directions.
In this way a neat, firm, strong, and durable barb is produced and permanently attached to the fence-wire.
Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desir to secure by Letters Patent- The combination, with a fence-wire, of a fourpointed barb made of two pieces wrapped around the rail, so as to cross each other upon opposite sides thereof, as shown and described.
