PATENTED SEPT. 1, 1908.
A. PAGEL. mm: POST. APPLICATION-FILED FEB. 29, 1908.
196 wow ARNOLD PAGEL, OF RACINE, WISCOEESIN.
FENCE-POST.
No. soryms.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented. Sept. 1, 1908.
Application filed February 29, 1903. ierisl No. 418,542.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARNOLD PAGEL, e citrzen of the United States of America, residing ,st Racine, in the county of Racine and State of W isconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Fence-Posts, of which the following is e specification.
This invention relates to fence posts, and one of the principal obj nets of the some is to provide a concrete fence post in which is embedded a metallic bracket or casting provided with means for securing the head of a.
- bolt thereto so that said bolt may be utilized in sttuching a wooden board to the fencefor nailing the wires thereto endto also provide means whereby the line wires of the fence may be secured to said casting by a nail or small piece of wire.
Still another object of the invention is to provide a concrete fence post with means whereby both a wooden board may be se cured thereto and means he provided for quickly connecting line wires.
These and other objects may be attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompenyingdrewing, in which,
Figure 1 is aside elevation and partial section of s fence post made in sccoroence witi my invention, and showing 2.. wooden. board connected to the castings embedded Within the post. Fig. 2 is a similar view inwhich the line wire is secured to the embedded oesting by means of anail. Fig. 3 is a trans verse sectional view through the post and through the casting. Fig. 4 is a. sectional view taken through the casting.
' Referring to the drawing for a. more specific description of my invention, the r rnersl l designates the fence post formed preferably oi concrete and molded into form. Einbedi'rcd within the post 1 at suitable intervals at one side thereoi are the brackets or castings 2. These castings each consist of a head having grooves 3 at the top and bottom thereof and a U-shaped flange 4 at each side thereof, said flanges and grooves serving to permit the concrete to run in and anchor the castings within the post. A curved slot 5 is formed in the casting, and a projecting lug 6 is formed at the end of theslot for a purpose which willpresently appear. Projecting out ward from the casting are the spaced arms '4', said arms halving registering openings 8 therein. An ordinary headed bolt 9 may be connected to each one of the castings by passing the head 10 of said bolt into the slot 5 until a portion of the same is engaged by the lugs 6. A suitable wooden board against said arms 7 by passing said bolts through the board and applying nuts 12 thereto. The space between the arms '7 is utilized to hold a line wire 13 therein by means of a nail 14. A piece of wire may be utilized for the purpose of securing line wires thereto, or said line wires may be secured to the arms 7, as shown in Fig. 2, if so desired.
He thus described the invention, what is claimed be new, is g 1. A concrete fence post having embedded ing provided with grooves, flanges to anchor the same within the-post, said castings each being'provided with a curved slot and 3, lug at the end of the slot to accommodate the read of a bolt for securing a wooden board to the post, and arms projecting from the castings, said arms provided with registering apertures for a nail or other fastening device to hold the line wires in place.
2. A plastic. fence post provided with abracket embedded therein, said bracket havthe inner circle of said arms with'a, groove to receive the head of a bolt and a shoulder to hold the boit heed seated Within said groove.
3. A fence post hering brackets embedded therein, each of said brackets being provided with a. pair of spaced arms projecting beyond the post and having retaining means located through the board and having their heads engaged with said retaining means on the bolts and damning the board against said arms. i
4. A bracket for fastening a. wire or a board to e'fence post, said bracket comprising a body portion adapted to be embedded pair of outwardly extending arms formed with eyes at the r outer ends, the said body of the bracket being formed ad acent the ing groove and shoulder.
in. testinony whereof I eflix my signature in presence of two witnesses. ARNQLE PAGEL.
Witnesses I W. J. IIAY, WM. BELL.
