Description

GASPAR A. STOCK, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
Letters Patent No. 109,964, dated December', 1870.
IMPROVEMENT IN DRAWER-HANDLES.
The Schedle referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom tt may concern Be it known that I, GASPAR A. STOCK, of the eity of New York, in theeounty and State of `New York, have invented new and uset'ul Improvements in Drawer- Handles; andI do hereby declare that the foliowing isa full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompany'- ng drawing forming part of this specification.
My invention relates to drawer-handles, and consists in providing the screw shank with a lateral groove or notch and a shoulder on the under side, whereby the jointed handle is prevented from striking tlmdmwerzmd the joint entirely concealed` from view.
Figure l represents a sectional elevation of my improved handle', and
Figure?. represents a i'ront elta-ation, partly sectional.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The shank A,\vhich is attached tothe drawer-front B by. screwing into it or otherwise, is provided witha large spherical or other equivalent termination, C, at the outer end, and has a deep notch, D, behind it, in the top.
The enlarged end O hasa strong wire, E, passing throughitscenter horizontally, and parallel with the drawer front. Y
,l`his,sh'a'nk A has also a shoulder, a, on its under side, by which the handle is prevented from moving in a larger are than the quadrant of a circle. lhe object of this construction is to eii'ectually protect the surl'ace ofthe drawer ii'om percussion and abrasion.
AThe handle F to be jointed to the shank has a eupshaped4 ibrmation, G, ou the end to be joint-ed to A, v whichreceives the wire-pin .l5 through the waljls of the cup, as shown, being placed thereon with the cavity fronting the drawer, so that the end of the shank and the front are held bythe cup both when the handle is downward or is raised to the position represented by dotted lilies in tig. 1; for pulling ont the drawer when so raised, the edge H of the cup, striking on the bottom of notch D, eectually prevents the handle froni rising higggh'erthan required, with much less injurious effect on the joint than is the case with the eonnnon rule-jointed` handles, the strain on the pivot-pin. or trunnions being distributed thereon, and the edge H of the cup having 'a fair bearing on the shank. i
lhe side wall of this cup and4 the bottom aiord a cpnsiderable amount of surface, which may be ornameuted with raised gures or other orlminentation, and l am thereby enabled to provide, by this arrange- .iiieiitgliiieh more desirable and salable articles than those now in use.-
As a further means ot' ornamentation, II propose to i cast or otherwise form the metal parts otl these handles with large openings in the front, and fit pieces ot' ornamented wood or India rubber, or other subst-ance, in them, as shown at I.
lolaving thus described my invention, I claim as .new and desire to v`vsecure by Letters Patentrlhe notch D and shoulder a. ot' the shank A, oombined as described, with the pivoted and cup-ended handle F G, for the purpose specitied.
rlhe above specification ot' my invention signed by me this 21st day of September, 1870.
