To all whom 2'16 may concern.

Be it known that I, EDWARD MCCAULEY, a citizen oi the United States, residing at Minneapolis, in the county 01" Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented a new and useful Pole-Tip; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of my invention.

This invention relates to improvements in pole tips; and the object of same is to provide a construction whereoy the accidental displacement of the neck-yoke from the pole tip is prevented.

Another object is to provide a pole tip which will perform the function of a runner and prevent the tongue from plowing into the ground in the event of the breaking of that part of the harness supporting the neck yoke and tongue.

I attain these objects by the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawing, i which Figure 1 is a side view oi a pole with my improved tip. Fig. 2 is a bottom view of same. The pole tip is castin one integral piece, as shown in the drawings, having a socket portion A of any desirable depth for the reception of the end of the pole 1. The top 01" the socket port on is prm 'ded with an extension 13 forming a strap adapted to lie upon the upper side of the pole. @n the bottom of the socket portion there is also a similar extension forming a strap C adapted to lit upon the under side of the pole. These straps are provided with holes for securing them to the pole by bolts or rivets in the usual manner.

Projecting from the under side of the forward end of the socket A there is hook E bent downwardl and rearwardly and whose rear end, terminating into a ball, is again bent upwardly towarc the pole for the purpose hereinafter set foito. @n the under side oi the socketthere is a lug i), adapted to prevent the ring or the neck yoke from sliding back upon the pole. The hock E one. the lug: i) are spaced apart suriiciently to allow the yoke ring to be inserted in posi tion upon the tip. As shown in the drawing the hook extends a considerable distance to the rear oi the lug D toward the heel of the pole.

By having the hook bent in the form above described should any part of the harness supporting the neck yoke become accidentally broken and the pole drop to the ground the said hook will perform the function of a runner allowing it to slide upon the ground instead or" plowing therein and being broken as it often happens with the usual form of pole tips in use before my invention.

By my invention 1 have produced a pole tip neat in appearance, easy to manufacture, cast in one piece, and produced at very much less cost than the usual pole tip of the form heretofore in use.

Although I have shown the socket portion of my pole tip provided with extens is forming top and bottom straps for securing it to the pole it will be readily understood that these straps could be dispensed with and the socket could be made completely of a tubular form surroundingthat length of the pole embraced by the straps without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention.

Having fully described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A pole tip formed in one integral piece comprising socket portion having a closed partially rounded forward end, provided with a. hook forming a continuation of the curve of the rounded portion and extending downwardly and rearwardly therefrom, said. hook terminating in a free end which is bent upwardly toward the rear end of the socket, a lug on the underside of the socket portion over-hanging the hook at a point intermediate the lengta of said hook, the underside of the socket portion lying between the said lug and the hook being in a substantially straight line as shown and described.
