Description

(No Model.)
C. P. BALL.
BROOM HOLDER. No. 300,882.` Patented June 24, 1884.
N. Firms, vmwmnamphu. vmhmgwn. n.12.
-NITED STATES CHARLES PERRY BALL, OF ORANGE, MASSACHUSETTS.
BROOM-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 300,832, dated June 24, 1884.
Application filed July 17; 1883. (No'model.)
To all whom it may concern,.-
Be it known that I, OHARLEs PERRY BALL, of Orange, in the county of Franklin, of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Broom- Holders; and I do hereby declare the same to be described in the following specification and represented in the accompanying drawings, of which- Figure 1 is a top view, Fig. 2 a front elevation, and Fig. 3 a side View, of a broom-holder of my improved kind.
It consists of a bracket, A, provided with ears a a, for securing it to a wall or other matter, and having a broom-handle circular receiving opening, d, extended through it. It also has two prongs, b b, projecting down from it, besides which there is fastened to one of the ears a spring, c, that goes upward through the opening d, all being arranged and formed substantially as shown in the said drawings. Each ear has a hole, e, made through it for receiving a screw for fastening it to a wall or side of any structure.
All of the said article except the spring and its supporting-rivet is to be cast or founded in a single piece of metal.
To use the article when it. may be fastened to a wall or side of .a room or structure, a broom-handle is to be pushed through the opening d upward against the spring and between and against the two prongs, whereby the broom will not only be supported or held from dropping or falling down or out of the holder, but by the prongs will be prevented from swaying or moving laterally therein, particularly while the handle may be in the act 0f being inserted in or withdrawn fromthe holder, for when a person seizes the handle below the holder for the purpose of extracting thc broom therefrom he generally, while drawing the handle downward, pulls it toward him and between and against the prongs, which guide it from swaying laterally or against the wall and binding inl the ring or on the spring, so as to force the latter: aside or derange it.
I make no claim to a broom-holder made as represented in any of the United States Patents Nos. 124,445, 132,089, 281,185, or 187 ,7 97 as none of them is provided with prongs eX- tending down from the single ring or part having the broom-receiving opening. The prongs as arranged with the single ring save the necessity of an auxiliary ring, with the spring arranged between the two rings, as shown in the Patent No. 12%445.
I claim- 1. The furcated broom-holder, constructed as described-viz., of the bracket having in it the single circular opening d, and also having the two ears a a and spring c arranged therewithe-substantiall y as set forth.
2. In the described broom-holder, the bracket having the broom-handle circular receiving opening and the two prongs arranged therewith, as set forth.` v
CHARLES PERRY BALL.
