HAT-PIN-POINT PROTECTOR.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, CHARLES G. JOHNSON, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Willow Brook P. 0., in the Province of Saskatchewan, Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hat-PiirPoint Protectors; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description or the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

The present invention is directed to improvements in hat pin point protectors, and has for its object to provide a device of this character which when in place, will not only protect the point, but will prevent accidental displacement of the pin.

A further object of the invention is to construct a device of this character, which is exceedingly simple in construction, eli'ec tive in operation, and one which is ornamental in appearance.

With these and other objects in view, this invention resides in the novel features of construction, formation, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device showing the same in place upon a pin, Fig. 2 is an enlarged sectional view through the same, Fig. 3 is a sectional view on the line 3--3 of Fig. 2, Fig. 4 is a similar view on line 41 of Fig. 2, Fig. 5 is a similar view on the line 55 of Fig. 2, and Fig. 6 is a perspective view of the jaws before being assembled.

Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates a. casing, preferably circular in cross section and having one end terminating in a flared mouth 2. Formed upon the other end of the casing 1 is a flange 3, said flange having notches 4 formed in the edge thereof and at diametrically opposite points. The flange is also provided near its edge with slots 5, which are also arranged diametrically opposite. The arms 6 of the jaw member engage the notch d.

The jaw member 7 is formed from resilient sheet metal, and is so bent as to provide a substantially circular head 8 which is connected to the arms 6 by vertical flanges 9 Specification of Letters Patent.

and gripping jaws 10, which are substantially triangular in cross section and have thelr opposing edges formed with opposing grooves 11, The jaw member 12 is also formed from a single length 01 metal and is bent upon itself to form a head 13, which terminates in spaced arms 11-, said arms for a certain distance of their length bear against the jaws 10, thus etl'ectively guiding the point of the pin 15 so the same will engage the head 13 of the member 12, thereby limiting the movement thereof. The arms 11- engage the slots 5, thereby holding the same in tight engagement with the jaws 10. The inner ends of the arms 8 of the jaw member 7 are engaged by the ring 16 which holds said arms in tight engagement with the casing as clearly shown in Fig. 2 of the drawing. The head 8 of the jaw member 7 is provided with a circular plate 17 and against which bears the bight oi the head 13 of the member 12, said bight being secured to the plate 21 in any suitable manner, and at right angles to the head 8 of the jaw member 7. arms 1 1 of the member 12, and holds the same in tight engagement with the casing 1. By providing the arms 14 the pin point will engage the same should it accidentally disengage the grooves 11 of the gripping jaws 10, thus directing the point so that it will positively engage the head 13.
