DOOR-HOLDER.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I. GEORGE D. Moons, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rowena, in the county of Minnehaha and State of South Dakota, have invented new and useful Improvements in DoorHolders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to door holders and it consists in the novel features hereinafter described and claimed.
An object of the invention is to provide a holder of simple structure adapted to be applied to the frame of a door and which may be operated to engage the door to hold the same in an open position at any desired point along its path of swinging movement.
With this object in view the device consists of a rod or member which is journaled at the upper portion of the frame of a door in suitable bearing provided therefor. This rod or member is provided with an intermediate outwardly bowed portion having spaced stops or lugs adapted to receive between them the upper edge portion of the door. Means is provided for turning or swinging the rod in order that the intermediate portion thereof may be moved entirely above the upper edge of the door or the said rod may be swung so as to bring any two of the lugs or stops located thereon adjacent the opposite side portions of the door whereby the door is held in an open position with relation to the door frame.
In the accompanying drawing :Figure 1 is a perspective view of a door with the holder applied. Fig. 2 is an elevation of part of the holder with adjacent parts in section. Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the upper member of the holder. Fig. 4: is an end view of the same.
The holder comprises bearings 1 which are secured in any suitable manner to the upper portion of the frame of the door. A rod 2 is journaled in the said bearing and is provided between the bearings with an outwardly bowed portion 3. The portion 3 is provided at its under side with spaced lugs or stops 4?. These lugs or stops are adapted to receive between them the upper edge portion of the door when the door is swung to an open position. The rod 2 is provided atone end with a crank 5 to which is pivotally connected the upper end of a rod 6. The rod 6 extends down along the Specification of Letters Patent.

face of the frame of the door. The intermediate portion of the rod 6 passes through a spring catch 7 of conventional form and the said catch is adapted to engage the rod and hold the same against longitudinal movement.
The operation of the holder is as follows: The catch 7 is manipulated to release the rod 6 and said rod is moved longitudinally whereby the crank 5 is swung about the axis of the rod 2 and the said rod is turned in the bearings 1. Thus the intermediate bowed portion 3 and the lugs at are lifted above the upper edge of the door. The door may then be swung to an open position and by lowering the rod 6 the rod 2 is swung so that two of the lugs 4 hear one against each side of the door and the door is held in an open position. Normally the catch 7 engages the rod 6 so that the said rod is held against longitudinal movement, but the said catch may be readily manipulated in order to release the rod 6 whereby the same may be moved longitudinally and the rod 2 may be swung in the manner as above indicated. Therefore it will be seen that the door holder of simple structure is provided and that the holder may be easily and quickly manipulated to secure the door and quickly manipulated to release the same if desired.
Having described the invention what is claimed is 1. A door holder comprising rod journaled to the frame of the door and provided with an intermediate bowed portion having spaced lugs, a crank provided upon the rod for turning the rod and means for swinging the crank.
2. A door holder comprising a rod journaled to the frame of the door and provided with an intermediate bowed portion having spaced lugs, a crank carried by the rod, a rod pivotally connected with the crank and adapted to swing the same when moved longitudinally and means mounted upon the frame of the door for securing the last mentioned rod against longitudinal movement.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
