POWELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Charleston, in Vthe county of Coles and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mirror-Ad justing Hinges; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact de.-V
scription of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in hinges and more particularly to hinges for mirrors.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple and efficient hinge so constructed that the mirror or other object supported thereby may be tilted and held at any desired angle and which may be instantly released by a device operable at theside of the mirror supporting frame.
vWith this and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, and the combination and arrangement of parts as will be more fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure l represents a rear elevation of a dresser having a mirror equipped with this improved hinge; Fig. 2 is an enlarged rear elevation of a portion of the dresser showing this improved hinge in operative position; Fig. 3 is a vertical section taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2; Fig. 4; is a horizontal section taken on the line 4f-4l of Fig. 2; Fig. is a similar view taken on the line 5 5 or' Fig. 2; Fig. 6 is a plan view of the blank from which one of the trunnions is constructed; Fig. 7 is a longitudinal vertical section showing a slightly different form of the invention, and Fig. 8 is a detail front elevation of the toothed disk employed in connection with the form shown in Fig. 7.
In the embodiment illustrated the hinge is shown applied to a dresser D having the usual uprights or standards S between which the mirror frame F is pivotally supported.

The cylinder l is provided with a longitudinally extending slot 4; in which a lug 5 in the cylinder is designed to reciprocate, a coiled spring 7 inner end of the cylinder l between the inner wall thereof and the inner end ofthe pin 6 so that it normally exerts its tension to force said pin outwardly. The trunnion bracket or clip 3 is shown constructed of a rectangular metal plate or strap having its ends apertured to receive fastening elements and provided between said elements with an outwardly bowed semi-cylindrical portion 3 which is adapted to span the cylinder and permit said cylinder to turn therein.

In Fig. 6, a rectangular plate is shown which may be of iron or other suitable material and from which the cylinder l and its attaching plate 2 are formed by slitting' the plate obliquely from its opposite sides as shown at l0 for about one-third of the width of the plate and then rolling the side edges thereof to form the cylinder, said edges being united by able manner.

When said button is released, the spring 7 will force the pin 6 outwardly, causing the lug thereon to enter the notch'in the lin adjusted position.
