CORPORATION OF CONNECTICUT.
BUTTON-TAB END FOR HOSE-SUPPORTERS.
Speccaton of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar.. 17, 1914.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, JOHN B. Russ and HENRY J. STUART, citizens of the United States, residing at Shelton, Fairfield county, Connecticut, and Ansonia, New Haven county, Connecticut, respectively, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Button-Tab Ends for Hose-Supporters, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Cur invention relates to improved button tab ends for hose supporters of the well known button and loop type.
The object of the present invention is to provide a new method of threading the button supporting strip through the base plate of the button in such a manner that sewing and mechanical fastenings are avoided. Heretofore, and as shown in Crandall Patent No. 841,940, dated January 22d, 1907, it has been customary to stiifen the extreme lower end of the hose supporter strip by iinbuing the same with a hardening material such as Celluloid, so that when that part of the strip above the stiened portion is threaded through the slotted plate, it will not become accident-ally detached therefrom. Our invention comprehends accomplishing` the same object without the necessity of treating the lower end of the strip with Celluloid.
A further object of the invention is to so thread the supporting webbing l strip through the plate as to entirely cover the back of the plate and secure thereby the much desired so-called rustless effect.
In the drawings, Figure l is a relatively enlarged side elevation of a button with the plate and supporting strip shown in section, said parts being in final form for use. Fig. 2 is a similar view, the several folds of the strip being somewhat open to more clearly show the method of threading.
l represents a button.V
2 represents a button supporting plate having three transverse slots therein.
3 represents the lowermost slot near the lower edge of the plate 2.
4 5 represent the uppermost slots near the upper edge of the plate 2.
6 represents a strip of webbing by which the button is supported and which is threaded through the slots in the base plate 2 as follows: The upper part of the strip 6 passes through the uppermost slot 5 from the rear to the front, covering the back of the base plate 2 above the slot 5. It then passes down the front of the plate to and through the slot 4 from the front to the rear; thence along the back of the plate to and through the slot 3 from the rear to the front; thence down and around the lower edge of the plate and up along the back of the plate to and again through the slot 5 from the rear to the front; thence down the front of the plate to and again through the slot 4 from the front to the rear, the eX- treme lower end of the strip 6 terminating at the back of the plate 2 and between the folds of the strip at the rear thereof. As shown, the starting point for performing the threading operation is immaterial so long as the finished threading appears as shown in the drawings. It will be seen that the entire back of the plate 2 is covered with webbing and thereby protected from coinirfg in contact with the body. It will also be seen that stitching or sewing and mechanical fastenings are avoided. It will also be seen that by reason of the peculiar method of threading, the friction on the tape is such that it will not become accidentally separated from the plate 2.
lVhat we claim is:
In a button tab end for button and loop hose supporters, a button, a base plate support therefor having three transverse slots, one of said slots being near the lower edge of the base plate, two of said slots being near the upper edge of the base plate, combined with a strip of webbing threaded through said slot-s as follows: through the uppermost slot from the rear to the front; thence down thence down to and again through the next to and through the next adjacent slot from adjacent slot from the front Vto the rear, 10 the front to the rear; thence doWn to and the eXtreme end terminating below said slot.
through the lowermost slot from the rear JOHN B. RUSS.
to the front; thence down to and around HENRY J. STUART. the lower edge of the plate and up along the Witnesses: back thereof to and again through the GEO. S. WILLIS,
uppermost slot from the rear to the front; F. A. BURWELL.
