UNITE STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES C. KROUSE, HARRY EJMYERS, AND CHARLES L. GIRARD, OF WVILLIAMSPORT, PENNSYLVANIA.
SUSPENDER-END CLASP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 478,339, dated July 5, 1892.
Application filed October 6, 1891. Serial No. 407,919. (No model.) 7
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, CHARLES C. KROUSE, HARRY E. MYERS, and CHARLES L. GIRARD, citizens of the United States, residing at VVilliamsport, in the county of Lycoming and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Suspender- End Clasps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to the class of suspenders, and particularly to a Suspender-end clasp; and the object of the invention is to provide a clasp for Suspender-ends of simple, durable, and convenient construction.
The invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanyingdrawings, forming part of this specification, Figure 1 is an elevation of a Suspender-end with the improved clasp employed. Fig. 2 is a plan View of the front plate. Fig. 3 is a perspective View of the toothed plate, and Fig.4 shows the top flange of the plate bentover a ring to secure it thereto. v
The same letters of reference denote the same parts throughout the several figures.
A represents the ends of a suspender, and A the suspender-end ring. The front plate B may be of any shape; but we prefer to construct it substantially as shown, and it is provided with side flanges O and a top flange l), which has a projection o'r tongue E and a slit a in the flangeD upon either side of the said tongue.
. F refers to the back plate, and upon its ends and lower edge is formed the teeth b, the upper portion of which has slots 0, running parallel with the top edge of the said plate F,
leaving a strap portion 6 between the said slot.
By forming the clasp in two pieces it enables the back piece to be constructed of heavier metal, by means of which the teeth thereof are made thicker and stronger, so that they cannot be pulled out of the fabric by the strain upon-the suspender-ends.
As hereinbefore described, the clasp is constructed in two separate pieces or plates B and F, and they, with the ring A, are secured together and to the suspender-end in the following manner: The top flange D is curved or bent over, so as to form a pivot-bearing for the ring A, which is contained therein. The projection or tongue E is left depending from the said flange D, while the end of the flange is bent still farther by means of the slots 0 around the ring. The portion of the suspender-end to be attached is placed upon the plate B close up to the bent portion of the flange D, and beneath the tongue E the back plate F is placed upon the said portion of the suspender-end, the tongue E, run in the slots c, leaving the lip e beneath the tongue and holding the said plate F firmly secured to the tongue. The flanges C are then turned over upon the plate F, which forces the teeth Z) upon its ends and lower portion into the fabric, thus forming a neat and most secure clamp upon the suspender-end.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A suspender-end clasp formed in two separate parts, one part comprising the front plate, having a projection or tongue, the top and side flanges, and the ring A,the other part comprising the back plate, having a straight top, a strap formed in the plate and running parallel with the said top, and teeth formed upon its lower edge, the said tongue beingadapted to engage with said strap to unite said two parts at the ring side of the clasp, substantially as set forth.
In witness whereof we hereunto set our hands in the presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES (J. KROUSE. HARRY EMYERS. CHARLES L. GIRARD. Witnesses:
OLARENGEF. SPROUT, RossER THOMAS.
