APPLICATION FILED FEB; 14.1919.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE. D
GEORGE 1. JAMESON, F BRIDGEPORQ CONNEGTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO THE THOMAS P. TAYLOR C0,, 0F BRIDGEPORT, CONNECTICUT, A. CORPORATION OF CONNECTICUT.
Application filed February 14, 1919.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE P. J AMESON,
a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Bridgeport, in the county of Fairfield and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Childrens and Misses Waists; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to Certain new and useful improvements in a childs and misss waist, and more particularly to the manner of attachment or securement of the buttons thereon.
Heretofore, it has been customary to secure the tapes which carry the buttons by the same stitching employed for attaching an overlying finishing tape. Because of the great strain on the buttons the tapes were torn away from the stitching, which condition was a source of much complaining and inconvenience on the part of the wearer.
The principal object of this invention is to improve the manner of attaching the tapes whereby they will be firmly anchored and secured to the wasit to eificiently withstand the heavy strains imposed thereon in the wear of the garment.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a front elevation of a waist having the buttons attached thereto according to the old manner of attachment;
Fig. 2 is a fragmental, inside view thereof, but showing the tapes attached according to the present invention;
Fig. 3 is a detail cross section through the waist on line 3-3 of Fig. 1, showing the tapes attached according to the present invention; and
Fig. 4C is a similar section on line H, of Fig. 1, showing the tapes attached according to the present invention.
In the former method, the buttons 1 had the tapes 2 threaded therethrough and the ends of each tape brought together beneath Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 8, 1919.
Serial No. 276,908.
the binding or finishing tape 3 where they were secured by the line of stitching 4 which fastened the finishing tape 3 to the waist 5, as shown in Fig. 1. The wearing strain to which the buttons are subjected not infrequently pulls and tears the tapes from the stitching, and to overcome this disadvantage is the main object of this invention.
To this end, the ends of the tapes 2 are brought together, after threading on the buttons, and the tapes arranged in inverted position on the waist and secured by one or more rows of buttonhole stitching 6 athwart the tapes. To the outside of the waist, overlying this buttonhole stitching, is attached the finishing tape 3 by the stitching 4 the lower row of stitching passing through the button tapes.
The buttonhole stitching 6 firmly anchors the button tapes to the waist and relieves the finishing tape stitching 4: from the main strain. The button tapes by being secured in inverted position and then folded backwardly over said stitching not only afiords a strong securement but also, where a wearing tab or strip 7 is desired to be attached or where there is a border piece 8, the free edge of the tab or border piece is slipped in beneath the backwardly turned button tape and secured by the stitching 4. This also eifects a neat smooth finish without affecting the firm anchoring and securing of said button tapes.
What is claimed is:
In a childs waist, button carrying tapes having their ends placed flat and in substan tial parallelism on the body of the waist and secured thereto by rows of stitching, the stitches themselves extending parallel with the tapes while the rows of stitches are side by side and extend athwart the tapes.
7 In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE P. JAMESON. Witnesses:
F. M. HAMMOND, NELLIE O. SHEEHAN.
