DOOR-CHECK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 1Q, 1914.
Application filed September 12, 1910. Serial No. 581,594.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EMIL M. ERDMANN, a citizen of the United States. residing at Bucyrus, in the county of Adams and State of North Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door-Checks, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in door checks and consists in an improved arrangement of devices connecting the door and adjacent casing for effectively securing the door in opened, closed, or intermediate position.
To this end my invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification Figure l is a perspective view of a door fitted with my improvement; Fig. 2 is av perspective view of a fragment of a channeled guide to be secured to the door anc. forming part of my invention; and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the same seen from the bottom.
In the drawings A represents the door and B the frame or wall to which the door is hinged. Upon the framework is a bracket 2 having a horizontal outwardly projecting ear in which is pivotally supported a rod 3 having a T-shaped head 4. The head 4 slides horizontally within a channeled guide 5 secured to the top of the inner face of the door. The guide 5 has in its bottom a plurality of holes 6 adapted in operation to receive the lower end of the head 4. The guide is formed with downwardly projecting ears 7 upon which are pivotally supported parallel arms 8 arranged just of? the vertical. Pivotally supported by the top of these arms is a bar 9 arranged just outside of the lower flange of the channeled guide 5. The outer arm 8 has a bell crank exten sion 10 which is connected by means of a link or cable 11 with a handle 12 upon the door.
As will be seen from the drawings the T-head 4L Works within the flanges of the channeled guide 5 and the rod 3 passes over the inturned end 13 of the vertically mov- Copiee oi this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents.
able bar 9. he bar 9 is kept normally thrust down in the position shown in Fig. 1 by means of a spring 14 which engages the underside of the crank arm 10. l'Vhen the bar is in this position the T-end of the bar 3 when brought into registration with any one of the holes 6 of the channeled guide will drop into the hole thereby holding the door from swinging in either direction. When the bar is to be swung into another position the handle 12 is turned, and this acting through the medium of the crank arm 10 and parallel links or arms 8 will throw up the bar 9. When the bar is thus thrown up it will engage the underside of the rod 3 and thereby lift the head 1- out of the hole in which it may happen to be and permit the door to be swung in either direction. When the handle is again released the bar 9 will fall and permit the head i to drop into the next hole it may he brought into registration with.
I claim as my invention:
1. In combination with a door and casing a guideway supported by one. an arm ful crumed upon the other and adapted to interlock at its free end with said. guideway, an independent horizontally extending bar having upwardly movable support below the free end of said arm, and hand aotuatable means for lifting said bar for the purpose set forth.
2. In combination with a door and easing, a guideway, formed with a front horizontal slot and a plurality of spaced openings, supported by one an arm pivotally supported by the other extending at its free end through the horizontal slot in said guideway in position to be locked within said openings, a. vertically movable member positioned below the free end of said arm, and means for raising said member to carry said arm out of locked position in said guideway.
In testimony whereof I atliX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
