UNITED STATES PATENT CFFIOE.
JAMES P. MILLER, OF RIDGEVHILE, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN MOSQUITO-SCREENS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 148,894, dated March 24, 1874; application filed January 24, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES P. MILLER, of Itidgeville, in the county of Iroquois and State of Illinois, have invented a new and Improved Mosquito-Net Frame, of which the following is a specification:
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a sectional elevation of a door or window frame with my mosquito-net attached thereto; and Fig. 2 is a horizontal section of the same on the line 0 c, Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The invention relates to a self-closing swinging bar or frame having a netting attached, and operated by a weight having a vdoublecord connection with it at the top and bottom. The invention also includes a peculiar arrangement of cranked or bent pivot-rods with the bar to which the netting is attached, whereby the bar is supported and the netting kept stretched without supplementary devices, as
. hereinafter described.
stretched over rods 1) to the opposite side of frame A, being tacked thereto in suitable manner. The netting 0 corresponds exactly to the size of the door or window, so that it closes the opening thereof, and excludes flies, mosqnitoes, and other annoying insects. The framerods cl are also bent, at some distance from the staples a, into eyes 6, to which cords f are attached. These cords f pass through staples or pulleys f of the frame A, and have the weight suspended from their ends, as shown in Fig. 1. The weight keeps the net-frame firmly on the door or window frame, while allowing, at the same time, the ready opening of the net-frame, as required.
In this manner a very cheap, durable, and easilydetachable protecting device against mosquitoes is produced.
Having thus described myinvention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The combination, with the mosquito-frame B O, of the cords F F and weight D,as shown and described, to operate as specified.
2. The vertical bar (I, supporting and pivot rods 1), and the netting 0, attached to said bar and the door or window casing, as shown and described.
