Letters Patent No. 108,567, dated October 25, 1870.
Moen- IMPROVEMENT IN SHIRTS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patentend making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern Bc it known that I, WILLIAM H. CARROLL, of Columbus, in the county of Lowndes and State of Mississippi, have invented ,new and useful Improvements in Shirts; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof', which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being `had to the accom# panying drawing forming a part of this specification.
This invention relates to improvements in shirts, and consists in the application to the front and top, around the neck, or partly around it, of a ribbed elastic knit goods, which, without having the slit or opening at the top commonly employed for opening to let the head through in putting the shirt on and ofi', will yield or stretch for the purpose, thereby avoiding'the necessity of having the said slits or openings, which are objectionable vin point of healthfulness and the. labor of buttoning and repair.
The said improvement is designed mainly for under-shirts.
The drawing represents front view of a shirt made according to my invention.
A represents the body ofthe shirt, which may be of flannel, knit, or other goods.
