To all whom t may concern p Be it known that I, GEORGE C. ELvERs, a citizen of the United States,I and -a resident of the city of Chicago, county ofCook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sanitary Toilet- Seat Covers, of which the following is a specication.

My invention relates to sanitary covers for closets and the object of this improvement is to provide a device of the character mentioned which will beof durable construction and eiicient in operation.

Other objects will appear hereinafter.

The invention consists in the, combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.

The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawing forming apart of this specification, and in .which- Figure 1 is a plan view of a blank used in the construction, Fig. 2 is a view, in perspective, of a tongue used in the construction, Fig. 3 is a plan view ofa portion used in forming the pocket, and Fig. 4 is a central sectional view ofthe closet supplied with a covering embodying my invention.

The preferred` form of construction as illustrated in the accompanying drawing comprises a sheet 5 of thin flexible material, preferably of paper having an oval perforation 6 in its center and a tongue 7 formed on one edge of the perforation 6 and extended into-said opening. The tongue 7 is formed integrally with the sheet 5 and cut out'sub- -stantially as indicated by the full lines in Fig.` 1. A triangular piece of sheet material 8 is vcreased on line 9 in Fig. 3 and bent to substantially the shape indicated by the dotted lines in this figure. The tongue 7 is foldedon lines 10, forming

11 and 12, the flap 11 is glued' to its contacting side of member 8 and fiap 12 glued to its contacting side of said member .8 with the edge portion 13 folded over and glued to the edge of flap 1l substantially as indi- 'cated in Fig. 2.4 This construction provides a pocket between the end portion of tongue 7 and the under side of the member 8. In use, the sheet 5 is placed on the seat lll of the closet bowl 15 with the perforation 6 registering with the perforation 16 in the seat 14. The tongue 7 extends downwardly into the bowl l5 with the pocket 17 which is formed at the end of tongue 7 as above described opening upwardly and so 'that when the closet is iushed in the usual ,mannen water issuing from the perforations 1S around the top edge of bowl 15 will engage pocket 17 and drawthe cover 5 into the water and permit it to be drawn downwardly through the waste 19 of the closet. The sheet 5 is placed in position manually and is preferably placed so that the pocket 17 is in the position indicated in Fig. 4 but may be turned with its other side up when desired. The member 8 is preferably made of more rigid material than sheet5 in order to give the pocket 17 proper stiffness to maintain it open sothat water will enter it upon contacting therewith. The sheet 5 and member 8 may be made of any suitable material but paper is preferred.

While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying .my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modications as come within the scope of the appended claims.

`Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

l. A device of the vclass described comprising a sheet of flexible material having a perforation therein; a tongue disposed in said perforation and provided with a pocket at its free end, substantially as described.

2. A device of the class described comprising a flexible material having a perforation therein; a tongue formed integrally therewith and extending into said perforation and provided with a pocket at its free end, substantially as described.

3. A device of the class described composed at` the privsing a sheet of eXible material having a' perforation v therein a. 'tongue formed infv tegrally therewith'and'extending into said perforation; a bent'sheet of material disfree end of said tongue and secured .thereto forming a, pocket therebetween, substantially as' described.
