Description

Aug. 5, 1941. v M. EARLE I SANITARY TOILET SEAT COVER Filed Sept. 19, 1939 Lenora Ma Earle Patented Aug. 5, 1941 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE SANITARY TOILET SEAT GOVER Lenora May Earle, New Philadelphia, Ohio Application September 19, 1939, Serial No. 295,692
1 Claim.
This invention relates to toilet seats and more particularly to a sanitary cover therefor.
The primary object of this invention resides in the provision of a sanitary toilet seat cover adapted to be disposed over the surface and sides of the same to prevent contact of certain portions of the body with the seat.
Another object of this invention resides in the provision of a sanitary toilet seat cover constructed from suitable cheap material which can be readily folded for stacking in a suitable vending machine and flushed through the toilet without obstructing the sewer.
A further object of this invention resides in the provision of a sanitary toilet seat cover of such construction that it can be readily disposed over a toilet seat and secured thereon until removed by an individual.
A still further object of this invention resides in the provision of a sanitary toilet seat cover adapted to be formed from a single piece of material of any desired color.
With these and other objects in view this invention resides in certain novel features of construction and arrangement of elements to be hereinafter more particularly set forth in the specification, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and pointed out in the appended claim and, while this disclosure depicts my present conception of the invention, the right is reserved to resort to such changes in construction and arrangement of elements as come within the scope of the claim.
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this application:
Figure 1 is a plane view of the toilet seat cover in unfolded condition.
Figure 2 is a side view thereof.
Figure 3 is a longitudinal sectional view of the toilet seat cover taken on line 3-3 of Figure 1 showing the same disposed on a toilet seat also in section.
Figure 4 is a cross sectional view thereof taken on line 44 of Figure 1.
Figure 5 is a View similar to that shown in Figure 4 showing the flanges of the toilet seat in inoperative position by full lines and in operative position by dotted lines.
In the present illustration of this invention the letter A designates, in general, a toilet flush bowl which among other elements consists of a seat B of the conventional type over the upper surface and edges of which is disposed a sanitary toilet seat cover constructed in accordance with this invention and designated by the letter S.
The toilet seat cover S is formed from any suitable material, preferably paper, into a configuration approximately that of conventional toilet seats and having its center portion partially separable from its body portion by perforations, score lines or the like 3 to provide an enlarged hole 5 therein and form a shield 4 to be disposed within the flush bowl at the front thereof, said hole 5 having its wall provided with a flange 6 on which is preferably but not necessarily formed a plurality of tongues 1 adapted to be extended into the flush bowl upon turning the flange 6 against the inner edge of the toilet seat.
Formed on each of the outer side edges of the toilet seat cover is an elongated flange 8 which is adapted to be turned downwardly against the outer sides of the toilet seat.
Extending from the front of the toilet seat cover between the flanges 8 is an apron 9 adapted to be turned downwardly against the outer front end of the flush bowl, the same being of sufiicient area to prevent contact of an individuals limbs, anatomy, body or clothing with the front portion of the fiush bowl.
With this invention fully described it is manifest that a sanitary toilet seat cover is provided which can be readily folded or otherwise disposed for stacking in multiplicity in a dispensing ma chine and, through the simplicity of construction thereof, it can be manufactured and sold cheaply.
Having thus described my invention what I claim and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:
A toilet seat cover consisting of a single sheet having a centrally disposed apron of generally oval shape, said apron being defined from the remainder of the sheet except at the forward end of the cover by a weakened line, said weakened line consisting of a series of longitudinally spaced arcuate sections, said weakened line having dovetail portions of trapezoidal shape connecting adjacent ends of the arcuate portions to provide tongues extending into the apron and interlocking therewith and thereby resisting separation of the apron from the remainder of cover along the weakened line.
LENORA MAY EARLE.
