TOILET OR WATER CLOSET sEATPRoTEcToR OR COVER Filed May 21, 1936 C Z6 INVENTOR.
ATTORNEY.
patented June 22, 1937 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFHIE TOILET R WATER-CLOSET SEAT PRO- TECTOR OR COVER 2 Claims.
This invention relates to toilet or water-closet seats or seat protectors or covers and is herein disclosed in some detail as embodied in a folded tissue paper seat cover which is easily unfolded and tends to center itself properly on the usual Wooden or enamel seat.
Attempts have been made to provide such covers but they proved heavy, or required complicated folding, withconsequent equally complicated unfolding so that they were unsatisfactory articles to dispense to the travelling public. Moreover, the covers were made in forms that had to be made relatively heavy paper to withstand the strains to which the device was subjected in use. In addition, the covers were too easily displaced.
According to the present invention a cover is provided which is cheap, easily laid in its pro-per place, not easily displaced, and so designed that it may be made of ordinary tissue toilet paper.
Other features and advantages will hereinafter appear.
In the accompanying drawing,
Figure l is a plan view of the new cover.
Figure 2 is a View of the cover folded for dispensing.
Figure 3 is a section from front to rear through a toilet seat with the cover in place.
The cover shown in Figure 1, may be a sheet Iii of toilet tissue paper cut to the outline, or a little larger than the outer edge of a toilet seat I I.
In the form shown the cover i0 is well adapted to fit a wide variety of seats, the seat shown being one with a front 12 extending continuously from side to side, although the cover also fits many open front sheets.
In the form shown the cover it is cut at the sides, l3, I4 to fit fairly closely the inner opening 95, of the seat H and extend well down over the curve of the seat at the sides.
To hold the cover l9 against slipping at the front l6 of the seat H a side tab l1, integral with the sheet I0 folds down along a straight line l8 to hang down inside the opening I5. It is found that a tab H is satisfactory if folded along the line I8 as far as a diagonal drawn across the seat, that is for a length of about three inches.
In the form shown a second side tab I9, identical with the tab l'l folds along an identical line on the opposite side of the seat to the corresponding diagonal. The tabs H and 20 may be formed, by cutting out the cover Ill, so as to leave uncut the paper from which the tabs I? and Zil are out, except that the tabs are severed from each other by cutting along the central line 2| inwardly from the point where the fold line [8 joins the fold line 20.
To hold the cover It against slipping at the back, it is shown or provided with a central tab 22 integral with the cover [0, made by folding down the paper of the cover along a nearly straight line 23 which extends about threefourths of an inch on each side of the central line of the seat I i. To additionally or separately hold the cover it against sideways sliding at the back, side tabs 24 and 25 are shown, folded down respectively along nearly straight lines 26 and 21 reaching to the diagonals which limited the tabs ii and i9, and extending at an angle which nearly conforms to the curvature of the seat II at the lines 26 and 21.
In the form shown the tabs 22, 24, and 25 are formed by cutting out the cover it) so as to leave uncut the paper from which the tabs 22, 24, 25 are out, except that the tabs are severed from each other by cutting inwardly extending parallel cuts 28 and 29 originating respectively where the lines 26 and 27 join the fold line 23.
The tabs 22, 24 and 25, hanging down inside the seat opening prevent backward sliding of the cover l0 and prevent its sideways slipping at the back. Thus, these rear tabs 22, 24- and 25, cooperating with front tabs I! and 20, hold the cover [0 in position by hanging down within the seat opening.
The cover I0 may be compactly folded to fit in a dispensing device by folding along the back tofront central line 30 so that the right and left sides 3!, 32 of the cover It] lie against each other.
Then the cover l0 may be folded along the central transverse line 33 so that the two halves of the side 32 lie against each other. The cover In is then folded along the diagonal lines 34 so that beginning at the bottom the side 3| is superposed on the side 32, three parts of the side 32 are superposed on side 3|, the two parts of the side 3| are superposed on the top part of side 32, and finally on top lies part of the side 32.
As thus folded the tabs [7, I9, 24, and 25 all lie flat without a fold, because they terminate at the diagonal lines along which the cover i0 is folded as described.
Having thus described in considerable detail one embodiment of the invention, What is claimed 1. A toilet seat cover including an annular body to cover the seat, a tab at each side of the front adapted to fall within the seat opening to hold the cover and each folded down along a straight line extending from the central line of the cover to a point on the cover about half way to the center of its side of the cover, and a tab at each side of the back adapted to fall within the seat opening to hold the cover and folded down along a straight line extending from near the center of the cover to a point on the cover about half way to the center of its side of the cover and a central back tabfolded down along a straight transverse line.
2. A toilet seat cover including an annular body to cover the annular seat, a single tab at each side of the front adapted to fall Within the seat opening to hold the cover and folded down along a straight line extending from the central line of the cover to a point on the cover about half way to the center of its side of the cover, and a single integral tab at each side of the back adapted to fall within the seat opening to hold the cover and folded down along a straight line extending from near the center of the cover to a point in the cover about half Way to the center of its side of the cover and a central integral back tab folded down along a straight transverse line.
