WATER-CLOSET.

Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 8, 1908.
Application filed se amber'ii, 1907. Isa-a1 No. ceases.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN W. MOAULIFFE, a citizen of the United States, residing atChicounty of Cook, State of Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful Im rovement in Water-Closets, and declare t e following to be a full, clear, and exact descriptionof the same, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it ertains to make and use the same, reference heing had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates in general'to waterclosets and more particularly to the shape and construction of the flushing rim around the bowl.
The object of my invention is to water closet with a seat which 'wil be comfortable for both sexes and will at the same time be so constructed that urine will not be thrown over the front of either the bowl or the seat. Y
' My invention may he generally described as comprising a water 'closet bowl the top edge of which instead of being in a plane, as is usual, is higher at the top and bac than at the sides, and is provided with a protecting thereo flange extending inwardly from the front When, as is the case with most forms of water closets, a flushing rim extends around the interior of the upper edge of the bowl, the rotecting flange extends inwardly from the ont of the rim. When a seat is provided above the bowl, such seat is unduated or curved to correspond approximately to the rim. The cover, when employed, 1s also preferably correspondingly curved.
My invention will'be more fully described with reference to the accompanying drawing in which the same is illustrated as embodie in a convenientand practical form and in Which,-
Figural is a lan view of the bowl and Fig. 2 is a contra sectionalview through the cover, seat and bowl.
The same reference characters are used to designate the same parts in the two figures of the drawing.
A designates a water closet bowl and B an ordinary waterconnection to supply 'water to the interior of the bowl. 7 f
C indicates theusual discharge conduit) rovide a Reference character A designates a flushing rim surrounding the top of the bowl through a slot in the bottom of which the water is discharged to wash the interior of the bowl. The rim is made curved or undulated so that the sides thereof are lower than the front and back. A rotecting flange a projects inwardly from t e front of the rim. D indicates a seat curved to correspond to the curvature of the rim, while E designates a cover preferably correspondingly curved. The seat and cover are pivotally connected at their rear edges to the bowl by any suitable means, such for instance as hinges d and c, respectively, connected to the seat and cover and pivoted to a post F.
It will be observed by reference to Fig. 2 that the flange a terminates adjacent to the inner edge of the front of the seat so as to obstruct the usual crack between the rim of the bowl and the seat.
From the foregoing description it will be observed that I have invented an improved .water closet bowl which is so'shaped and constructed as to be cleanly and comfortable in use.
what I claimas new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1 In a water closet, a bowl, the upper edge of which is curved so as to be higher at the front and back than at the sides, a seat curved so as to correspond tothe curvature of the top of the bowl, and a flange projecting inwardly tending in close proximity to the seat.
2. In a water 0 oset, a bowl the upper edge of which is curved so as to be higher at the front and back than at the sides, a seat curved so as to correspond to the curvature of the top of the bowl, and a flange having a substantially tending inwardly a sufficient distance to come into close proximity to the downwardly curving seat. I
In testimony whereof, I sign this specification in'the presence of two witnesses.
