SANITARY CLQSET-SEAT PROTECTOR- SPEGIFIGATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 768,708, dated August 30, 1904;.
Application filed April 21, 1904.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, ORRIN THOMPSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Neenah, in the county of 'innebago and State of WVisconsin, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Sanitary Closet-Seat Protectors, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a protector consisting of a metallic plate for attachment to the under side of a water-closet seat just forward of the seat-opening and having a drop-flange depending within the walls of the water-closet bowl, the object of said flange being to deflect any liquid which may escape the person using said seat from flowing outward, horizontally, or otherwise under said seat and between it and the top of the bowl or which may be thrown upward in flushing the bowl, said drop-flange directing any liquid downward into the bowl which may strike the flange, and thereby preserving the under side of the seat in a dry and sanitary condition.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a plan of a seat turned back and showing the under side thereof with my seat- Fig. 2 is a vertical section lengthwise of the seat of the upper end of a portion of a water-closet bowl with my improvement secured to the seat in position for directing any liquid downward into the bowl which may be thrown forward under the seat. Fig. 3 is a plan showing the under side of my closet-seat protector. Fig. a is an end elevation of my improved seat-protector. Fig. 5 is an end view showing a modification in the manner of forming a seat-protector. Figs. 1 and 2 are upon a smaller scale than the remaining figures.

In the modification shown in Fig. 5 the securing part of the plate and the drop-flange 7 are formed of one piece by bending, and an extension 11, of sheet-lead or other metal which can be easily bent and will not be affected injuriously by the liquid which is likely to come in contact with it, is soldered at the bend to the main portion. In forming this extension of lead or other metal, as before described, it can be cut to the curve of the seat-opening and bent upward over the edge of the wood of which the seat is formed.
These protecting-plates are adapted for application to seats of all water-closets whether old or new and while serving its purpose as a liquid-deflecting flange will also strengthen the seat and prevent its liability to split at the place where it is applied.
Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-
A sanitary closet-seat protector for watercloset seats adapted to be secured to the under side thereof just forward of the opening therein, a flange depending vertically from said securing part of the protector of approximately the same curve as the forward end of said seatopening and being adapted to fall within the walls of the water-closet bowl and todirect any liquid downward into said bowl which the junction of said securing part and flange, may be thrown forward horizontally, or substantially as set forth. otherwise, along and under said seat, the attaching part of said plate and its depending 5 flange being formed by bending a sheet of Witnesses:
