Specication of Letters Patent.
Patented J an.'13, 1914.
Application filed January 30, 1913. Serial No, 745,222.
To'aZZ whom i't may concern.'
Be it known that I, CHARLES F. STEWART, a citizen of the United States, residing at Flint, in the county of Genesee, State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cigarette-Molding Devices; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable ethers'skilled in the art to which it apper tains to make and use the same.
This invention relates ,to improvements in cigarette molding devices. n
@ne object of the invention is to provide a simple device of this character which may y showing the method of extracting tobacco therefrom, and F ig. et is a sectional viewA h,howing the manner in which the cigarette finally made. `tteferrng particularly to the accompanying drawings, 10 represents a receptacle, fbrmed preferably of metal, and iiat for convenience in carrying in the pocket, this receptacle b'eing adapted to contain tobacco. Secured in one of the end walls of the con` tainer 10 is a metal tube 11, the major portion of which projects from the end of the container when in operation, the outer end being provided with the stop flange 12 to limit the movement of the same when the said tube is pushed inwardly preparatory to placing the box in the pocket. vSecured to the opposite end wall of the container and projecting to a point below the tube 11.15 a stein or rod 1S, the purpose. of which will vappear in the description of operation which will follow. The` box is formed with a suitable hingedlidhlt. i
For molding the cigarettes, I provide a metal tube 15 which will be approximately the size it is intended to make the cigarette. One end of this tube has a centrally perforated Wall 1G, through which projects the` stem 17, the outer end of which is provided with a button 18, and the inner end .with a plunger head 19, this plunger head -zbeing .i
adapted for forcing the tobacco from the tube upon pressure being applied on the button 18.
In the operation of the device, the tube 12 is withdrawn to the proper distance, after which the open end of the tube 15 is inserted within the tube 12 so that the stein 13 is disposed therewithin. The receptacle 10 is inverted, and -the tube 15 moved inwardly and outwardly through the tube l2 untilthe said tube 15 is filled with tobacco. The tube 15 is .then removed and a suitable cigarette paper wrapped around the tube and properly sealed, the paper being then slipped a short distance off the open end of said and twisted to close the e'nd. The stem 7 is then pushed inwardly to forcethe tobacco into the paper tube and at the saine time force the paper oif the tube 15. The paper and tobacco which is forced olf ofthe tube 15 constitutes the completed cigarette. The tube 12 is provided as a guide for the tube 15 so that when said tube 15 is inserted into the box, the stein 13 will always enter theA inner end of the tube. If desired this tube 12 may be rigidly mounted, but I prefer t0 mount the same slidably, so that it can be pushed in when the box is to be placed in the pocket. u
When the device is placed in the'pocket, the tube l5 can be inserted in the tubev 12, a stop flange 2O being provided at the closed end of the tube 15 to prevent the same from going into the container 10. It will be noted that as the tube 15 is moved inwardly and outwardly of the container 10, the stein 13 guides the said tube l5, and assists in packing the tobacco in the said tube and loosening the saine within the container.
Whatis claimed is:
A cigarette making device, including a tobacco container comprising a sliding tube mounted in one end, a stem secured'within the container and extending to a point adjacent the innerend of the said tube, and a.
molding device comprising a tube open at one end and provided with a perforated Q l 'I 1,084,874
Wall at the opposite end, a plunger rod sld- In testmony whereof, I ax my signaable through the opening, e plu/nger head ture, in the presence of two Witnesses. on the inner end of the stem, a button Qn CHARLES F STEWART Athe outer end, and a stop flange on the closed I 5 end of said tube whereby the tube may he Witnesses:
