To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, GEORGE W. ABRArnnr, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Saskatoon, Province of Saskatchewan, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cuff-Links; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

The invention to be hereinafter described relates-to cuff links.

In order to more clearly disclose the construction, operation, and use of the invention, reference should be had to the accompanying drawings forming part of the present application.

Throughout the several figures of the drawings like reference characters designate the same parts.

In the drawings: Figure 1 is an enlarged side elevation of the operating parts; Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same; Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 1, showing the invention as applied; and Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the invention applied.

The main objects of the invention are to provide a simple, efficient, economical, compact, and durable cuff link which may be readily and easily forced through the but ton holes of a cuff with the least possible effort; and one which will be absolutely and positively secured in place after it is so inserted, without any possibility of dropping out or becoming lost.

Referring to the drawings in detail, 1 indicates a bar or rod bent at an acute angle and having one end pointed as at 2 and notched as at 3, near the point. The opposite end is bifurcated to form two parallel ears 4 each of which is perforated. To the portion between the angle and the ears, is secured a button 5. A second bar 6 is pivoted to the first bar 1 by means of a pivot pin 7 passed through its free end and through the perforations in the ears 4. Formed integrally with the bar 6 is a disk 8. Or, if preferred, the disk and bar may be made separately and then connected. This disk 8 is provided with a small opening for the passage of the point 2. formed or secured a small sleeve 9 in which is slidably mounted a rod 10 provided with a slightly upturned tip or point 11 adapted to fit into the notch 3 and engage the shoulder 12 at the side of the notch. The engagement between the point 11 and shoulder 12 prevents withdrawal of the bar 1. A coil spring 13 has one end fixed to disk 8 and its free end passed through an eye 14 of the rod 10. The tendency of this spring is to force the rod 10 to operative position, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3. The disk 8 and the parts thereon are inclosed by a hollow cap 15 formed in imitation of a cuff button. In order to disengage the hook 11 from the shoulder 12, it is only necessary to engage the hook 16, at the opposite end, and draw the rod outwardly, as will be obvious.

It is thought that the operation and use of the invention will be clear from the preceding detailed description.

Changes may be made in the construction, arrangement, and disposition of the several parts of the invention within the field and scope of the following claims, and it is meant to include all such within this application wherein only a preferred form has been disclosed.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. A cuff link comprising two members hinged together, the one member being in the form of a bar and having its free end bent inwardly and provided with a notch on the inside opposite the hinge and the opposing member formed of a bar and plate having an opening therein into which the notched end of the other member is designed to extend when the link is closed, and spring actuated means for engaging the notch located in proximity to the plate and releasable from a point on a line with the bar portion of the member and on that side of the plate in proximity to the hinge as specified.
