IMPROVEMENT IN SASHFASTENERS.

n The Schedulexeferred to in these Letters Patent and making pali: of the same To all whom it may conceyn:

Be it known that I, J oHN G. NIcoLAv, of Sp1-ingield, in the county of Sangamon and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Window-sash Fasteners; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof', reference being had t0 the accompanying drawings. My invention consists of the hook A, hinged to the plate B, which said plate is screwed fast to the window-sash in the ordinary manner. Y

One 01 more small buttons, knobs, or hooks, having a head, projection, or ring, G G, are firmly fixed to the window-trame, or to the slat which holds the sash in its groove.

These buttons or other devices are placed at a suf'- licient distance from the sash, so that, when the' hook A is swung or `folded. back against the plate B, the sash and hook will move freely up and down, without touching the buttons or knobs. v l

rlhe hook A moves freely upon its hinge, and is operated by the hand.

lol fasten the sash, raise it to the knob desired, and with the hand move ont the hook A against the window-frame, and in its descent it will catch over and upon the knob or button C, holding the sash securely in place, while the head or projection Y(or other` device) upon the knob or button will prevent the hook from being loosened, detached, or made to slide olif by any accidental `jar or touch. The drawings show the window, and, secondly, so that, when the sash is low.-

cred,it may be turned under a knob, placed in proper position to prevent the window from being raised from the outside.

'lhe plate, hook, and knobs may be made of brass, iron, or other metal or composition, having suicieut strength, and would readily adapt themselves to a great variety of ornamentaldesigns.

Claim.

What l claim, and desire to4 secure by Letters Patent, is

The hook A, hinged to the plate B, andthe knob or button, C, or their equivalents, placed at intervals to sustain the sash at different heights, and behind the projections, on which buttons or knobs the hook A. impinges and securely holds in its descent or ascent, all operating together, and for the purpose substantially as herein described and set forth.
