IMPROVEMENT IN SASH-HOLDERS.

The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part o! the same.

To all whom it may conce/rn.-

Be itknown that I, J AMES A. PnINTz, of the city of Reading, county of Berks, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented an Improved Sash-Lock and Supporter; and I do hereby declare the following to he an exact description thereoreference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon making a part of this specification, in which- Figure l represents a side elevation of the sashlock and supporter;

rlhe nature of my invention consists in the combination of' the spring roller-box,.operating on a vcrtical plate,the box having two circular incliues for the journal of the roller to shift or raise and lower in, and 'of the hinged-plate F, spiral spring, and supporter, with operating button, all arranged and combined.

The object is to lock 'and support the sash at any v required height, a-nd in raising and lowering the sash it has a free and yielding operation.

To enable others skilled in the art t6 make and u'se my invention, I will proceed to describe its constructi'on and operation.

A represents the vert-ical metallic plate, that is mort-ised and fastened byscrews to the side of the sash, the devices for supporting the sash being permanently attached to the plate on its inside, and operating in the mortise ot' the sash.

B. is the box, in which an India-rubber roller, E, op-

erates. The journals D D of the roller'shift up and down in a double circular slot, C, in the sides of the box, as the sash is vraised or lowered, s0 as to ease and free the roller as it pressesagainst the side of the window-frame. l

rlhe box B is adjustable by means of the gum spring L, secured by a bolt, M, to the inside of the box, and the box works on a hinged plate, F, at the hinge N, the hinge being secured by its shaft toV the circular side pla-tes or stationary boxj? P. The'other end of the hinge is a plate, It, that i's regulated by the spiral springr G, and the projecting pin 4or supporter H is permanently attached to the plate R.

The bottom or knob J is also attached to plate R, so that the plate R, with the supporter H, can be moved back,and the supporter disengaged from kthe window-frame, intowhich it locks, by springing into apertures made on the inside of the window-frame, the sash rest-ing upon the supporter H.

What l claim as `my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isv The combination of the spring roller-box B, having a double circular slot, C, for the journal D of theroller E to shift in, the. hinged plate F, spiral spring G, and supporter H, with operating but-ton J, when arranged and combined upon the same plate, as herein described,

and for the purposes set forth.
