TO .ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: A

Be it known that I, GUSTAVE FRANZ HDRICH, (formerly .of Moritzburg, Saxony,) now of the city of Buffalo, in the county of-Erie, State of New York, have invented a new and improved Sashdastener; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact' description thereof', reference being had to -the accompanying drawings, making part oi' this specification, in which-'- Figure 1 is a vertical section near the edge of the upper und lower'snsh of a window, showing my improved fastener in place in the latter.

Figure 2 is a similar enlarged section of a portion ofthe lowersash detached.

My fastener is designed to be attached -to theilo'wer sash of a window, and is adapted to secureeither sash in any desired position by locking them together; and the invention consists in the peculiar constructionv and arrangement 'ot' the device by which the above is accomplished, as hereafter fully set forth.

My fastener consists ofa lever or plute,iC, of .suitable length, pivoteiliil'txor near the centre to'two Sideplutes or bearings del, (tig. which are festened to the inner face of the stile of the lower sash near the top by screws, as shown. To the back side .of the lever C is attached a ilat spring, @,or, equivalent, forwhichis providedva mortise, F, in the sash, as represented, whileifrom the upper end of the plate projects a pin or bolt, g, of .sufiicient length toi'extend through the lower sash, and into or under the upper one, as shown in iig. l. H is aknob, provided with adore-tail groove, o, in its base, which fits so as to slide over aledge or way, z', of `corresponding form, attached to, or .forming part of, the'face of the lowerend of the lever C, as most clearly shown in figs. 2 and At each end of the way z' projects a small spur orpin, 8,'to prevent the knob from sliding oil` the former, there being c. second groove,- r, (fig. 2,) extending part'way through the knob, so as to allow the vlatter to be slid downtso that its base will partially project below the end ot' the .plateor lever C, forming a stop to lock the device, as will presently be described. Any other eonstructionby which the knob or ringer-piece of the lever is made toslide so as to produce this vresult may be employed. My fastener is attached to the under sash (preferably) in such a .position-that, when both sashes are closed, the bolt g will 'protrude under the bottom rail of the upper sash, rmly securing both in place. The knob H is 4then slid down, if it does not fall-'by its lown gravity, so that a-portion of its'base will overlap the' sash Bbclow the end of the lever C, and prevent the latter being depressed into the mortise F, and thereby securing the bolt g from being forced in by a personV on the outside. When it is desi-red to unlock the sash for the purposc'ctl raising the one or lowering the other, the knob H is slid up the way to the position shown in iig. 3; then, by pressing. on the same, the plate Ciis depressed, as shown in red lines, fig. 2, which withdraws the bolt, andnllows the change to be made, when the action of the spring le causes the devieeto resume its' normal position, again locking. the sash, as shownin red lines, i'ig.1. By the use of my improved fastener one only is required for both sashes, asfitis evi-dent that the device, as shown, is adapted equally to lower the upper as well as raise the lower sash. It 'rm'ly secures both sashes against displacement. The adjustable' knob-H enables the device to be so looked as to prevent the Sash being unloosened from the outside. I
