To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, EDWARD DAooRsI, a citizen of the United States, residing at Gloversville, county of Fulton, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gloves, of which the following is a specification.

The invention relates to such improvements and consists of the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter described and subsequently claimed.

Reference may be had to the accompanying drawings, and the reference characters marked thereon, which form a part of this specification. Similar characters refer to similar parts in the several figures therein.

Figure 1 of the drawings is a front plan View of a glove embodying my invention, showing the thumb bent back abruptly to expose to view the quirk of the thumb. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the one-piece blank which forms the front and back of the glove. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the blank for the thumb.

Certain objects of the invention are to simplify the construction of gloves; to improve their fit; and to add to their elasticity in fitting the hand.

Other objects will appear in connection with the following description.

In carrying out my invention T form the front and back of the glove both of one integral piece of material folded upon itself and having its neighboring edges within the body of the glove secured together by a minimum length of seam.

Referring to the drawings wherein the invention is shown in preferred form, I have shown in Fig. 1 a complete glove formed from the blank shown in Fig. 2 by folding the blank along the lines, 1 and 2, the portion of the blank, 3, between said lines forming the back of the glove, and the foldedover portions or fiaps, 4e and 5, forming the front of the glove. The folded-over flaps are connected together by scams, 6 and 7. to form a thumb-opening, 8, wholly within and inclosed by the single piece which forms the front and back of the glove. The seam, 6, extends along the front of the glove from the crotch between the first and second fingers to the thumb-opening, and the seam, 7, extends from the inner end of the wristopening, 9, to the thumb-opening by the shortest possible distance. The blank for the body of the glove is cut with an angular Specification of Letters Eatent.

projection, 10, which forms a quirk at the base of the thumb, 20, the thumb-piece, 11, being out with a similar angular projection, 12. The thumb, 20, is inserted in the usual manner in the wholly inclosed thumb-opening 8. The front and back finger-pieces which form integral extensions of the body of the glove may be secured together, respectively, by forgettes or in any known manner.

The glove may be made of any desired material suitable for glove-making, but this invention is particularly applicable to leather gloves, as the shortness of the seams permit maximum stretching of the glove without distortion and without undue strain at any one point.

The fold-line, 1, extends along the line of the outer side of the first finger, and the line, 2, along the line of the outer side of the little finger. Referring to Fig. 2, the member, 13, is folded to form the front and back of the first finger, and the member, 14:, is folded to form the front and back of the little or fourth finger. The member, 15, forms the back of the second finger, and the member, 16, the front thereof. The member, 17, forms the back of the third finger, and the member, 18, the front thereof. The thumb-piece, 11, is folded along its longitudinal middle line to form the pocket for the thumb, and the angular projection, 12, extends a substantial distance out beyond the pocket-forming portion of the thumbpiece, so that in the finished glove, the projection, 12, extends well down toward the base of the first finger, and none of the seams whereby the projection 12, is connected with the other parts of the glove extends across the hand-portion of the glove between the base of the thumb and the base of the first finger, as is usual in a type of glove heretofore known wherein the body-portion is seamed along the under side of the little finger and wrist. The resultant construction, as shown in Fig. 1, presents an unbroken and unseamed surface on the front side of the glove from the base of the first finger entirely across the crotch of the thumb, which surface between the base of the first finger and the base of the thumb is of nearly the full width of the base of the first finger, the seam, 6, extending at an obtuse angle of nearly 180 degrees to the inner side-line of the first finger.

What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is glove comprising front and back formed of a single piece of material folded along the line of the outer edge of the first finger and along the line of the outer edge of the little finger to form front flaps, a Wrist-opening and an inclosed thumb-opening, said front flaps being secured together by tWo short seams, one extending from the Wrist-opening to the inner side of the thumbopening and the other extending from the crotch between the first and second fingers to the base of the thumb-opening at a slight angle to the inner side-line of the first fingel; and a thumb-piece formed of a single piece of material folded for a portion of its flaps of the body extending continuously 25 along the front side of the first finger past the crotch of the thumb and terminating in a quirk for the thumb.
