UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GLOVE.
Application filled. January 2'7, 1923. Serial No. 615,186.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, PETER S. B. JENSEN, a Citizen of the United States, and resident of Berlin, in the county of Green Lake and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gloves; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
This invention relates to gloves.
Objects of this invention are to provide a glove in which the body and fingers are formed solely of a. single piece of material, in which the usual seam at the outer side of the glove is eliminated, in which a single seam is employed for each finger, and in which the number of operations employed in producing the glove are reduced.
An embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a view of the glove from the palm side.

Figure 3 is a view of the integral blank from which the body and finger portions of the glove are formed.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, it will be seen that the body portion of the glove and fingers are formed from a single, integral blank, as shown in Figure 3. This blank comprises a body portion 1, which is roughly of rectangular contour and provided with an aperture 2 and a slit 3 leading therefrom adapted toreceive the inner end of the thumb 4, such thumb being formed from a separate piece of material. It will be seen that a relatively large por tion composed of the smaller parts 5 and 6, extends upwardly from the body portion and is provided with a reentrant angle 7 defining the two parts 5 and 6 adjacent their outer ends. The lower portion of the part 6 .is separated for a slight distance from the body 1 by means of a slit which provides a slightly upwardly slanting forward edge 8 for the body portion. A similar pair of members or parts 9 and 10 project upwardly as an integral piece from the body portion and are defined adjacent their upper ends by a reentrant angle 11. The portion 10 is similarly partly separated from the body 1 by means of a slit and a second upwardly slanting edge 12 for the body 1 is thus formed which intersects the edge 8, as may be seen from Figure 3.
The portions 5 and 6 form the index fin ger 13 of the glove when the portion 6 is folded or rolled over until its edge contacts with the edge of the portion 5 to which it is joined. The portions 9 and 10 similarly form the little finger 14 of the glove, the portion 10 being rolled or folded over and its edges joined to the corresponding edges of the portion 9.
From the left hand end of the blank a projecting portion extends and is composed of the member 15 and the member 16 separated by the reentrant angle 17 which defines their upper edges. projecting part a. tongue 18 is formed. The intermediate portion between the tongue and body part consists of an angular V-shaped edge 19. On the other side of the blank a similar pair of members 20 and 21 are provided and are separated by the reentrant angle 22. The lower portions of these membersare provided with the tongue 23 and with the V-shaped edge 24 similar to that previously described in connection with members 15 and 16.
In forming the glove, the portions 5 and 6 and 9 and 10 are folded, as previously described, and are secured along their edges to each other, thereby forming, re spectively, the index finger 13 and the little finger 14. The body of the blank is folded to bring the side edges 25 and 26 into overlapping relation and such edges are secured. The finger next to the index finger, indicated at 27, is formed by the members 15 and 16, which, when the body of the blank is folded, or rolled over, are brought into their correct position.
The inner portion of the edge 19 is secured to the edge 8 and the tongue 18 is secured to the bottom portion of the part 6, as may be seen from Figure 2, such tongue being indicated by the same numeral 18 in Figure 3. The finger 28 next to the little finger is formed by the members 20 and 21, which, when the blank is rolled over, has the inner portion of the edge 24 secured to the edge 12 and the tongue 23 correspondingly secured to the lower portion of the member 10 in a manner similar to that described for the tongue 18.
If desired, the glove may be finished in any suitable manner by binding the edges, for instance, and by providing a bellows tongue 29 and suitable fastening means 30 and 31.

It will be further seen that a minimum of seams is necessitated by this construction and only one longitudinal seam is provided for each of the fingers. Also, it is to be noted that the longitudinal edges and 26 provide the only seam, as indicated at 32, upon the body portion of the glove and that this seam is in the middle of the back and removed from the. side where formerly such seam appeared, thereby materially reducing the wear upon the seam.
I claim A glove comprising a body portion and integral finger portions, said body portion having an aperture therethrough having continuous margins, a separate thumb piece secured Within the aperture in said body portion, the first and fourth finger portions each having a single longitudinal seam and each being formed by an outwardly ex tending projection from said body portion provided with a lateral flap folded around to complete such finger portions, the second and third finger portions being formed by projections extending outwardly from said body portion each provided with a lateral flap folded around to complete such second and third finger portions, said second and third finger portions each having a single longitudinally extending seam, and a single transverse seam joining said second and third finger portion to' the body portion on the palm side of said glove.
