FRANK X.-STUR1VI, QFALEXANDRIA, INDIANA. ASSIGNOR TO T E GLovE' oonr'oRA- 'rIon, or ALEXANDRIA, INDIeNA,,a conPonA'rIoN oF'I nnIAnA o-Lovn. 1
' Application filed November 12, 1926. Serial Nol 147,889;
My invention relates to improvements in gloves and particularly to a blank for form- 'ing the backs of the fingers of a glove. -My invention is especially directed towards a blank for forming the backs of thefingers of workmens gloves and particularly of that type of glove which is formed partially of one material, preferably leather, and partially of another material, such for instance as fabric. H It is one of the objects of my invention to provide a blank for theformation of the backs of the fingers of aglove which 'will permit of the cutting ofthe' blank, either in a single or multiplicity of pieces with .a minimum of waste material.
For the purpose of disclosing, my inven tion I have illustrated'certain embodiments thereof in the accompanying drawings, in which, a I Fig. 1 is a rear "elevationfof the fingers of a glove having the backsthereof formed from a blank embodying my invention;
Fig. 2 is a view oftheblank employed in forming the backs of the fingers shown in Fig. 1; I
Fig. 3 is a view of another glove, the backs of the fingers of which are formed from a blank embodying my invention;
Fig. 4 is a view of a modified form of the blank shown in Fig. 2 and which when folded and stitched will form the fingers as shown in Fig. 3.
Fig. 5 is'a detail view of still another modification of the blank, only the center fopemng being shown;
Fig. 6 1s a rear elevation of a glove embodying a modification of ;my invention, and I backs of the fingers illustrated in Fig. I In the embodiment illustrated in'Fig. 2
the blank preferablycomprises a singlepiece' the base outwardly on a line extending ra-,
dially outwardly through the center of the point 4 as at 9 and is again slit at right an- Fig. 7 is a View of the blank forming the gles to the slit 9 and on a. line 10 which forms a continuation of one edge 11 of the point i i I l.' Theslitting of the materialat 9 and 10 we I, 5 e.
disconnects the two points 1 and 4 so that the material may be folded on theradial lines 12. r 5
When the blank is assembled in a glove the material is folded so thateach of the points 1, 2, 3, and 4 lies parallel with the] other, the material doubling or folding along the lines 12, and the outer edges .of the points are stitched or sewed toqthe; front finger portions of the palm or front finger blank. The walls of the'opening 5 form the lower or bottom edge of the fingers and this edge, is stitched to thefabric forming, the backof the glove.
' In Fig. 4 the center opening 13, which correspondsto the opening 5, is somewhat circular in shape and a single slit-14 is made along the baseof the point 4 instead of the rectangular slitas in Fig.2. 7 This slit 14, I
however, as in the structure illustrated in Fig. 2, formsa continuation-of an edge 15 of the finger Piece n folding and assernv I bling the blank ishandled in the same'man5 ,ner as the blank illustrated in Fig. 2.:
c In Fig. 5 thecenter opening 16 is triangu- I 1' lar in shape, the slit 17 in the" base of thepoint 4 however being the same as that shown in the structure illustrated in Fig. 4
the point 1.
point 1 substantially at right angles to the and forming a continuation of the edge- 18 of y In Fig. 7 the center opening 19 is isub-' stantially rectangular in shape, the corner occurringat the line, 12, of :fold. In this "figure the slit 20 is made in the base of-the edge thereof and theslitted portion forms a;
continuation of the edge 21 of the point 4.-
It will .be noted, however, that in all of the structuresillustrated there. is provided material of thebas'e of one of the points of v the star is slit substantially at right angles to the edge of the point and that this slit 1. A blankfor. the backs of a; glove comprising a substantially-star-1;
in the blank a center openingand that the I I terand its points constituting the backs of t the fingers, two of the points of the blank j being separated on a line extending trans versely into the base of one of the points we thus forms a continuation of the edge of one of the other points. e I'claim as my invention:
I ni-ul of the star and forming a. continuation of one edge of another point of the star.
2. A blank for the backs of the fingers of a glove comprising a substantially star shaped figure having a central opening formed therein, two of the points of the star being separated on a line extending into the base of one of the points substantially at right angles to the edge of the point and forming a continuation of the edge of one 10 of the other points,'and on a second line extending at right angles to the first mentioned line and to the edge of the center opening.
In Witness whereof I, FRANK X. STURM,-
have hereunto set my hand at Columbus, 15
Ohio, this 6th day of November, A. D. one thousand nine hundred and twenty-six.
