`Be,` it knowinthat I, BNAMIN GREGG, of Bennington, in `the county of Bennington and State of `Vcrmont,.have invented afcertain new and 'useful Improvement in Bed-Bottoms, `and the following is here- .by declaredto be a'fnll and oorrectdescription of the p same.

The `springs at the opposite endsof the slats bendi fing toward `each lotheryas weight came upon them, caused said springs to` slide upon the under sides of I'the slats, occasionin noise `and g friction, and the tendency of weight upon the slats was to force-the springs fromftheir place of attachment.v

I place, said springs' at the `oppositeends of the slats and parallel orfnearly so to "each other, sc that the movement of the .slats as weight comes upon them.

- The springs are formed `with horizontal portlons, b, toset upon the bearcrsa, and are-to be attached to the same by screws,'orv in any desired manner. .The

and said slatseare notched to set wit-hin said saddles.'

These notches' should be of sucient length torallow of aslight movement of the slats-in said saddles.

I' place the, springs in the manner' shown in lig. 1, so thatthe ends of the springs of each slat will have a nearly parallel `movement as said ends and slat arel depressed or raised as aforesaid; thus there willI be but little sliding .motion upon the under sides ofthe slats, l
