specification of Letters Patent.

y Application filed February 2, 1912. Serial No. 675,621.
To all wzomz'zI may concern Be 1t known that l, Lnoronn MAMnoURG, a. citizen of the Umted States, residing at 'Columbus, Franklin county, Ohio, have invented certain new and useful, Improvements in Nursing-Bottles, of which the following is d specification." L
This invention pertains vtoimprovements1n nursing bottles having bottom seals, the 1mproyements being designed to facilitate the eilicient and sanitary sealing of thebase of the bottle, to facilitate'lthe unsettling of the bottle, and to prevent undesired rollin@ of the bottle, and the improvements "will` be readily understood from the' :tollorying description teken in connection with the accompanying drawing in Whichrl Figure l is a side elevation of a nursing bottle exemplify/ing my present improveniente: Fig. 2 a vertical diametrical section of the bottle proper: Fig. 3 avertical diametricel section of the bottoni cap and venttube: Fig. et is a plan ofthe' bottoni cap and vent-tube: and Fig. 5 a vertical diametrical section, on a much enlarged' scale, through a portion of the sealing joint between the bottle proper and the bottom cap.
In the drawing zl, indicates the bottle 1noper,.the same beingpreferably circular in plan: Q, the nipple on the mouth of the bottle: 8, an externally threaded boss projecting concentrically from the base of the bottle: it, a fiat annular shoulder surrounding the threaded boss: 5, a! threaded nietellic ,cap adapted to be vscrewed upon the threaded boss of the bottle: 6, a dat flange forming the rim of the cap: "I, an openbottomed vent-tube projecting from the oep up into'theV` bottle to a point near the neck` of the bottle: 8, a small vent-ing aperture in the upper end of the vent-tube: 9,21 gasket, of elastic Flange 6 of the cap and the latannular shoulder 4 of the bottle, the thickness of this gasket being such that the threaded boss of the bettle cannot bottom in the oep: l0, lugs riphery of the cap: and ll, a large opening through the threaded boss of the bottle.`
The opening 1l through the threaded.'
bese of the lbottle is of large size, and the bore or" the base'cf the bottldebove the material, disposed bet-Ween the itatv ving, an external screw-thread surroun projecting outwardly from the A pe-' bottom of the bottle, joins the bore of the opening -ll by -a contour contracting inwardly Without any outward growing of the base of the bore of the bottle. By this construction, taken in connection with the mouth of the bottle, the bottle may be readily cleaned by passing 'Water freely through it, the' inwall of the bottle being free from groovesor recesses. The gasket, being compressed between the bottle-shoulder and flange 6 of the cap, effects a. sealing between thecap and the bottle and is as far as pos- Sililerenioied from the contents of the hottle, thus avoiding, as far as possible, any de-, terioratingA eii'ect of the contents of the bottle uponthe gasket, or contaminatinginfluence of the material ot the gasket upon the contents ot' the bottle. When the cap, together with the vent-tube carried by it, is unscrewed'and removed from the bottle, the gasket is exposed upon the exterior or the threaded bese where it may be l readily cleaned, and, if need be, the gasket may be readily removed from the threaded base for more perfect cleaning or for replacement in case of damage. The lugs l0, oi' which there may be any desired number, facilitate the screwing' and unseren/'ing or the csp end Aprevent undesired rollingl ot 'thebottle upon a dat surface.
The vent tube Z integrally formed With the cap 5 is of quite large diameter so that it may be easily cleaned 'Jy means of abrush. or swab inserted from the outer end. This cleaning is not possible in ceses Where ventv tubes ot' small diameter are provided. The sheet-metal construction of the cap and tube permit the tubo to be made of ample diameter and sufiicient strength. The relatively large tube terminates in 'en inwardly tapered portion provided with s relatively small ventop'ening.
ln a nursing bottle or the like, the coin-n gage the bottle thread, an outwardly eX-' tending flange et the inward end of seid lee 'threlzuh1 said cap Harige being opposed to said bottle shoulder, said closure also having an ixitgrallyformed tube of relatively large diameter extendin Within the bottle and i terminatiiifr in n re atively small vent open- 111g, said cosure also being provided at the outward end of its screw-threaded portion fvfvith one. olf-miope lateral projections to provide n fastening grip :m11 prevent rolling, and a gasket between th@ closure Bange and 10 the bottle shoulder.l
