nonsms BOTTLE.
Application filed January 21, 1922.
To all w 11pm. it may concern Be it known that I, LOUIS H. ORsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Nursing Bottles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to infant feeders and more particularly to nursing bottles, andhas for its object to provide an article of this nature which admits of the nipple being easily applied to the bottle or removed therefrom without endangering the spilling of the food and which bviates the formation of a vacuum when the device is in actual; service.
The invention furthermore provides a nursing bottle which may be readily cleaned and kept in asanitary condition which is of the utmost importance to the-health of the infant, the bottle embodying a cover to which the nipple is fitted, said cover having screwthread connection with the bottle and adapted to clamp an inner flange of the nipple whereby to insure the formation of a tight joint between the parts and enable the nipple to be easily and quickly removed or placed in position as required. 7
Other objects and advantages will be apparent and suggest themselves as the nature of the invention is understood.
While the drawings illustrate an embodiment of the invention it is to be understood that in adapting the same to meet different conditions.- and requirements, various changes in the form, proportion and minor details of construction may be resorted to Without departing from the nature of the invention.
Referring to the accompanying drawings forming a part of the application,
Figure 1 is a side View of a nursing bottlel embodying the invention, partly in sect-ion Figure 2 is a sectional detail of the upper portion of the bottle on the line 2-2 of Figure 1, and
Figure 3 is a detail view of the cover as seen from the lower side.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and designated in the several views of the drawings'b-y like reference characters.
Serial No. 530,877.
The preferred form of bottle is of uniform diameter throughout and its inner walls are straight and the mouth large so that access may be readily had to the interior of the bottle for purposes of cleaning. The base of the bottle is formed with an outer flange 2'. for stability when the bottle is placed upon a table or other support to prevent its ready tipping over. An outer shoulder 3 is formed adjacent the mouth of the bottle and the portion beyond the shoulder 3 is formed with a screw thread 4. The bottle may be of any capacity and is preferably of circular form.
The cover comprises a top and a depending rim 5, the latter being internally scerw threaded to match the screw threaded portion 4 of the bottle. The top of the cover embodies a centrally disposed bar 6 which is adapted to aline with the nipple so as to prevent collapsing of the same and the formation of a vacuum which would interfere with the efliciency of the article. Spaces 7 are provided upon opposite sides of the bar 6 for the discharge of the food when the device is in operation. The cover, like the bottle, may be of any material such as generally employed in articles of this nature, glass being preferred. 1
The nipple 8 is of rubber andof well known outline and, in the present instance, has an inner flange 9 which is adapted tooverlap the edge of the rim 5 of the cover and be clamped between said rim and the shoulder 3 whereby to secure a tight joint and prevent any possible leaking at the joint formed between the cover and bottle. That portion of the nipple at the junctureof the teat with the body is reinforced, as indicated at 10, whereby to guard against collapsing and to retain the given shape of the device which is desirable as will be readily understood.
In practice, the nipple 8 is fitted to the cover and this may be readily effected and after the nipple has been applied to the cover, the flange 9 overlaps the outer edge of the rim 5 and when the cover is in position, the flange 9 is clamped between the rim 5 and the shoulder 3. It will be understood that the cover may be readily placed in position or removed from the bottle and is retained in place by means of the screw-thread joint between the cover and bottle. In addition to the inner flange 9 the nipple has an inner shoulder 11 and the cover is comprised between the flange 9 and shoulder 11,
the latter also acting to reinforce the nipple.
v What is claimed is:
1. In a nursing bottle, a cover therefor comprising a top and a depending rim, the top including a centrally disposed bar and having spaces at opposite sides of the bar, and a nipple detachably fitted to the cover and having a portion adapted to overlap the outer edge of the rim thereof.
2. A wide-mouthed nursing bottle having a portion adjacent the mouth externally screw threaded and formed with an outer annular shoulder, an internally screw threaded cover to make detachable connection with the bottle, and a nipple fitted to the cover and having an inner flange adapted to be clamped between the shoulder of the bottle and the rim of the cover.
A wide-mouthed nursing bottle of uniform diameter throughout and having an outer flange at the base and outer shoulder near the mouth, and having the portion beyond the shoulder externally screw threaded, a cover comprising a top and depending rim, the top including a centrally disposed bar having spaces at opposite sides thereof and the run being internally screw threaded to match the screw threads of the bottle, and a nipple fitted to the cover and having an inner flange overlapping the rim of the cover and adapted to be clamped between said rim and the shoulder of the bottle.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
LOUIS HENRY ()RSON. Witnesses: EARL J. KELLEY, H. AURBER.
