STOVE-MAT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
' Patented Sept. 2, 1913 Application filed February 14, 1913. Serial No. 748,433.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HOWARD Kin/1w, a citizen of the United States, residing at l rauktown, in the county of Douglas and State of Colorado, have invented new and useful lmprovemeuts in Stove-Mats, oi? which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain novel and useful improvements in ash mats or bases for heating stoves.
In carrying out the present invention, it is my purpose to provide a mat or base piece for supporting a heating stove and by means of which the transmission of heat from the lower portion of the stove to the lloor will. he avoided, and ashes prevented from falling on the floor or the mat, when withdrawing the ash pan from the ash pit ol the stove.
It also my purpose to provide a stove base platform or mat which will embrace the desired features of simplicity, efficiency, durability and convenience coupled with cheapness of cost in manufacture and marketing and which may be readily applied beneath any stove.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter set forth in and falling within the scope of the claims.
In the accompanying drawing; Figure 1 is a view in front elevation of a mat or platform constructed in accordance with my present invention showing a stove positioned upon the same. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the mat or platform, and Fig. 3 is a sectional view therethrough.
Referring now to the accompanying drawing in detail, the numeral 1 indicates a stove mat which is adapted to be positioned upon the floor and is constructed of any suitable or desired material. This mat may be of any appropriate size and is adapted to receive the legs of a heating stove 2, the latter resting upon the mat.
The numeral 3 indicates a substantially rectangular casing or housing built upon the mat 1 at the center thereof and immediately below the bottom wall of the ash pit of the heating stove 2, such housing having an open end 4 designed to slidably receive a drawer 5. This drawer, it will be noted is oi a width greater than that ol the opening to the ash pit and consequently greater than the width of the pan in the ash pit. Thus, when it is desired to withdraw the ash pan from the pit, the drawer 5 in the housing 3 is moved to an open position and disposed below the edge of the base of the stove thereby catching any ashes which may fall from the pan. The housing 3 of the drawer constitutes a balllc plate whereby transmis sion of the heat from the bottom of the stove to the mat or the floor is eliminated.
It will be seen tl at l have provided a protector for stoves whereby the transmission o t heat from the stove to the floor is eliminated and by means oil which ashes falling from ti 2 ash pan are caught thereby avoiding the inconvenience of sweeping.
I claim:
1. A protector for stoves or the like comprising a mat, a housing built upon the mat approximately centrally thereof and having an open end, and a drawer slidable into and out of the housing by way of the open end thereol. substantially as, and for the purpose, set forth.
9. The combination with a stove, of a proteetor therefor comprising a mat upon which the stove is adapted to rest, a housing built upon the mat approximately centrally lhereott' between the upper surface of the mat and the base of the stove to form a detlector whereby the transmission of heat from the stove to the mat and floor is avoided, said casing having an open end, and a drawer slidable into and out of the casing by way of the open end thereof and of a width greater than that of the opening to the ash pit of the stove.
In testimony whereof I ailix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HOlVARD KELTY.
