To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, SARAH A. H.W1LLIAM- sort, of Carson City, in the county of Ormsby and State of Nevada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stoves, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

Thisinvention is more particularly designed for different kinds of parlor and other like stoves, and relates to that description of such stoves which have a recessed open bottom or base with a sliding plate fitted to close the opening therein, and arranged so that when said plate is drawn out to expose said opening the ashes may be dumped into the'removable or sliding ash-pan beneath. The main object of such sliding-plate attachment is that after the ashes have been dumped or passed into the ash-pan the plate may be closed and the pan be removed subsequently at any time without producing dust in the apartment and without risk of einders or ashes falling from the stove onto the floor; and my invention consists in a more convenient and advantageous construction and fit of said parts or devices, substantially as hereinafter described.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.

Figure I is a top view of the bottom of a stove embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a partly-sectional front view of the same on the irregular line as x in Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 a vertical transverse section thereot'on the line y y in Fig. 1.

l I l 1 Furthermore, below the opening I), beneath or back of its rear margin, is cast on the plate A a stop bar or strip, g, constructed to receive within or close up against it the back edge of the sliding plate 0, and also made sufficiently deep to act as a stop to the ash-pan D when said plate and pan are closed. This fit of the slideor plate 0 makes a close under cover to the opening b when the ash-pan is withdrawn to prevent escape of cinders, dust, or ashes. and the pan D is also as effectually closed when shut into its place, and the sameflanges or strips 0 0 and g serve as guides or supports and stops both for the slide 0 and pan D.

The pan is provided with a front handle, it, the way of the slide, to admit of the withdrawal of the pan without disturbing the slide, and the slide is also ranged aboveor out of the way of the pan and its handle to admit of the movement of the slide in or out without disturbing or interfer "he invention is applicable to ranges as well as stoves, and where a grate is used for burning coal.
