--PATENT 1 OFFICE.
SPECIFICATION forming' part of. Letters Paten?, No. 70-7,24f3, dated August 19,1902.
- Apparition and April 24, 1902. seminale/1.464. (No man.)
To all whom, t may concern:
Be it known that I, EVA C. LEONARD, a citi-A zen of the United States, and a resident of Thompson, in the county of Susquehanna and State of Pen nsylvauia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Portable Stoves, of which the following is aspeciication.
'lhe object of my invention is to provide a portable sheet-metal stove which is particularl)1 adapted for the purpose of heating flatirons, but may be used also forlight cooking, for heating a room, and for such other purposes for which a stove of this character is employed.
The invention contemplates the provision of an improved portable stove which can be manufactured and sold at small expense, which shall be light and durable in construction, and which shall be convenientin use.
l The invention consists in the particular construction and arrangement of parts, all as hereinafter fully described, and specifically set forth in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, Figure lis a front elevation of a portable stove constructed in lEig. 2 is a plan view. Fig. 3 isa vertical sectional view. Fig. 4 is a horizontal sectional View.
Like letters of reference indicate like parts in the several views of the drawings.
The letter A designates the body of the stove, which is preferably rectangular or box shape, consisting of the front and back aand a', respectively, the sides 0,2 a?, and bottom a8, the latter being curved upward at the corners of the front, as shown. To the four corners of the body A are attached feet b, which are preferably cast-iron and are adapted to support the stove a suitable distance above the floor. The sides a2 are turned into a bead c4 at the top of the stove, said bead being reinforced by a wire c', the ends of which restupon the-upper edge of the front and back, and from this bead the side pieces are eX- tended horizontally to provide rails c2, which support the sliding sections of the top a? and also form supports for the fiat-irons.
At a suitable distance from the bottom of the stove is a grate d, consisting of `a metal plate perforated to permit air to pass to the fuel, the said grate being supported upon rods e e. passed through the front and back a and tr., This grate is loosely supported on the rods, so that it may be tilted at any time to dump ashes from the same, and one of the supporting-rods is located aslight dis-l is a door f, provided with ilangesf and with' a sliding damper g, which latter is adapted lto supply the draft to the stove.
In the back of the stove is an opening h, near the top, into which a stovepipe may be inserted.
It will be .understood that this stove is adapted to burn wood or charcoal, and after the fuel has burned to red-hot coals the said stove n'iay be entirely closed and carried to any place desired and will throw olf a great amount of heat. When the smoke-pipe is removed, the hole h is closed by la cap, and in order to facilitate carrying the stove it is provided with handles 't'.
It will be readily seen that I provide .a sim# ple, cheap, and eective stove, which may be 'used fordifferent purposes, and being' portable may be located in any convenient place in a room and may be also used advantageously for heating {iat-irons either for ironing clothes or pressing garments.
A portable stove of this characterwill prove a very convenient device and will give a maximum heat from the fuel used.
Another important advantage is the fact that the stove can be manufactured and sold at small cost.
Having thus particularly described my vinvention, what I claim aspen', and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a portable stove, the combination, of the sheet-metal body A, having a sliding top,
IOO
andthe bottom curved up at the corners of the front, aperforated plate 'forming the grate, rods supporting the grate and bearing at their ends in the Walls of the body of the stove, and a door in the front provided with a damper, the
Vsaid stove being supported upon feet, subs'tantially as shown and described.
2. In a portable stove, the combination, of the body A made up of sheet metal and having a bottom curved upward at its front corners,
from the adjoining side, anda door covering an opening in the front, said door having a sliding damper and inwardly-projecting dan ges, substantially as'show'n and described. 3. In a portable stove, the combination, of the body A, made up of sheet metal and rectangular in cross-section, a bottom curved y upward at its front corners, openings through the body of the stove below said curved corners, the sides of the body of the stove being turned into beads reinforced by wires which rest upon the front and back, and said sides extended to provide the flanges, and a sliding top supported upon said anges; together with a door in the front of the stove having flanges and a damper, the said stove being provided with supporting-feet, and' with handles, as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I afx my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
