JAMES WILLIAM MITCHELL', or EW DEcArUri, A-'L BAM, ASSGNORV or oNE-HALF 'ro' JAMES MADIsoN' WATSON, or NEW DECATUR, ALABAMA;
To all whom z't may concern: i l
Be it known that 1,' JAMES WV. MrroI-I'im. a citizen of the United States, resid'ing" a't New Decatur, in the county of llorgan and' State of Alabama, have inven-ted a. new and useful Andiron, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in andirons, the Object being to provide an andiron of neat appearance and with fuel holding supports which may be held in adjusted positions at various distances apart, to thereby accommodate fuel of different lengths.
lVith the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the descriptio-n proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodinent of the invention herein disclosed, can be made within thescope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings accompanying this specification and forming a part thereof, the preferable form of my invention is illustrated, in which Figure 1 is a view in perspective of my improved andiron. Fig. 2 is a transverse cross sectio-nal view thereof taken on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings in which similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several Views, 1 represents the upper longitudinal bar and 2 the lower one of the front frame A. The said lower bar 2 is suitably connected to the bar 1 by means of the uprights 3, 4 and 5, the upright posts 3 and 5 being provided with the do-wnwardly extending portions G and 7 which constitute supporting legs for the frame. The bar 1 is provided with triangular projections upon its upper surface designated as 8 and the lower bar 2 is provided with a number of cylindrical studs or projections 9, the last mentioned studs or cylindrical projections being in vertical alinement with the triangular projections of the upper bar.
The fuel supports are detachably secured to the frame A and comprise the horizontal body portions 10 one end of which is bent downward in order to form the depending legs 11. The other end of the body porpecih'cation of Letters PateitL Patrfied Aug; 12,1913.
tions 1 0` is bent upward' as at 12 and is' provided' with the spaced lugs 13 and 14 which are" adapted to engage the bars 1 and 2 respectively of the frame A.
In order that the andirons may present a neat attractive and pleasing appeal-anae, the upright members 3, 4 and 5 are provided with the extensions 15 and the serrated edges 16.
The spaced lugs 13 and 14 which are preferably formed integral with the upstanding portions 12 of the fuel holding supports are adapted to engage the upper and lower longitudinal bars 1 and 2 respcctively of the frame A and be detachably secured thereto. By the providing of these bar:: with the plurality of projections and cylindrical studs, the fuel holding supports may be held in adjusted position at various distances apart thereby accommodating fuel of different lengths.
The cylindrical studs upon the lower bar of the frame lend a neat and attractive appearance to the frame and acting in conjunction with the upper triangular projections prevent the shifting of the fuel holding supports and maintain the same in a substantially vertical plane it also being pointed out that the projecting studs prevent the fuel supports from tilting.
Having thus fully disclosed the construction of my improved andiron, what I Claim to be new and original with me is:-
l. An andiron comprising a frame, having projections extending upwardly and studs extending outwardly therefrom, said frame provided with legs at the extremities thereof, fuel supports comprising horizontal body portions, one end thereof bent down- Ward to form a supporting leg, the other end of said body portion bent upward and provided with spaced lugs, said lugs adapted to engage the upper and lower portion of said frame, and fitting between the said studs, said studs adapted to prevent the tilting of the fuel holding supports and to maintain the same in a vertical adjusted position.
2. In an andiron the combination of a frame with upper and lower longitudinal bars, said upper bar provided with triangular projections extending upwardly therefrom, said lower bar provided with cylindrical studs extending outwardly therefrom, and said frame provided with legs formed integral with the said lo ngitudinal bars at the extrenities thereo'f, and :Euel supports 'I etnds preventing the lting of the fuel sup- 10 eonprieng horizontal body portions, one porting members.
end of said body portions bent downward to In testimony that I elain the foregong as form a supporting leg, and the other end of my own, T have hereto affixed my signature said body portions bent upwardly and proin the presence of two Witnesses.
Vided With spaoed lugs, the Said spaced lngs JAMES ILLIAM MITCHELL. extending between the said trangular pro- XVtnesses:
jectons and said eylindrical studs and held S. M. VVINTON,
in adj'usted position thereby, said cylndrcal C. L. ODOM.
