Description

B. M. SMITH.
STOVEPIPE FASTENER.
APPLICATION FILED JULY 26, 1912.

ATTORNEYS UNITED STATEglleilENT OFFICE.
BENJAMIN MORRIS SMITH, OF MONROE, INDIANA.
STOVEPIPE-FASIENER.
ilditititfisi.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN M. SMITH, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of h lonroe, in the county of Adams and idtate of Indiana, have invented a new and linproved Stovepipe-Fastener, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention has for its object to provide a stove-pipe fastener having two elongated members, one with an opening in its outer end, and the other with an attenuated inner end in the shape of a spear head projecting through the opening, the members being in interlocking engagement with each other at the spear head and the opening, each of the members having a hook at its other end for engaging a stove-pipe section and the inner wall of a chimney, there being a plate with an opening through which one of the elongated members is disposed, and having a flange at its outer end to serve as a stop for the end of the stove pipe, and a flange at its inner end to rest against the outer wall of the chimney.
i 'illflltlfillttl objects of the invention will appear in the following complete specification, in which the preferred form of the invention is disclosed.
in the drawings similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views, in which Figure l is a sectional side elevation of a vstove pipe showing my invention; Fig. 2 a plan viewshowing two sections of the fastener member, and the sleeve for holding the sections in position relatively to each other; Fig. 3 is a perspective of one of the sections of the fastener member; and F 4- is a perspective view of the member having the slot in which one of the sections oi? the it'astener member is normally disposed.
By referring to the drawings it will be seen that the fastening member is constructed of two elongated members 5 and 6, the elongated member 6 having a hook 7 for engaging the inner wall 8 of a chimney 9, this member 6 also having an inner end 11 in the shape of a spear head with lateral recesses 10. The other elongated member 5 of the Specification of Letters Patent.

SeriaI No. 711,656.
fastener member has an elongated opening 12 adjacent its outer end, and a hook 141- at its inner end, for engagement with the end 15 of the stove pipe section 16. The two elongated members 5 and 6 are secured to gether by the interlocking of the spear head projection at the end 11 of the member (3 with the member 5 at the elongated opening 12. A third member consisting of a plate 17 is provided, having an outer end with an. upturned flange 11.9, to serve as a stop for the end 22 ot the inner stove pipe section there being an opening 18 in this tlange 19, through which the elongated member (3 is disposed. The plate 17 also has a flange 23, at its inner end, :tor resting against the outer wall of the chimney, to hold the plate 17 in position when the inner end 22 of the section 21 of the stove pipe presses against: the flange 19.
Having thus described my invention, 1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
In a device of the cl'iaracter described, an elongated member having an opening in one end, and a second elongated member having an attenuated end in the shape ot' a spear head, norn'ially projecting through the opening in the first elongated member, and in interlocking engagen'ient therewith, a hook at the other end ot' one of the members for engagement with a stove pipe section, a hook at the other end of the other member for engagement. with the inner wall of the chin'iney, and a plate having an opening in which one of the members extends, and being pro vided with, a flange extending in one direction at one end adapted to serve as a stop for the inner end of the stove pipe section, and a flange at the other end extending in the other direction and adapted to rest against the outer wall of the chimney.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
