Application filed March 2, 1912. Serial No. 681,264.
Be it known that I, EDWIN HAMMOND, a citizen of the United States, residing at Crescent Mills, in the county of Plumas and State of California, have invented certainnew and useful Improvements in Stovepipe-Joints, of which the following is a specification. p
This invention relates to stove pipe joints and has for its object to provide a simple and efficient means for securely fastening together the ends of the sections of a stove pipe.
Referring to the accompanyin drawings:
Figure 1 is a view of a pair 0 stove pipe scoping adjacent ends 2 and 3. The end 3 which telescopes into the end 2 is formed with a shoulder bead 4 located adjacent to the end of the stove pipe section and adapted to abut against the end of the telescoping adjacent section. The ends2 and 3 of the adjacent telescoping sections are each formed with alining slits 5 which may be suitably punched in the metal.
In order to hold the telescoped ends of the sections together a metallic band 6 is provided which encircles the end of one of the sections 1 adjacent to the bead 4, and is provided with internal suitable projections adapted to pass through the alining slits 5.
As here shown the strip or band 6 is provided with the projections 7 preferably formed by a strip of metal 8 bent over the band 6 and formed at its ends with lugs 9 Fig. 3 is a detail View clamped together. This is a simple and cheap construction, since it may be readily formed of scrap tin and avoids striking up projections from the band 6 and thereby weakening the'same. The ends of the band 6 are secured together in any suitable manner and as here shown preferably bymeans of a slit 10 on one end engaged by the tongue 11 on the other end which is passed through the slit and is bent over to draw the ends of the band 6 together.
It will be seen from the foregoing descriptionthat a simple fastening device is provided to lock the adjacent ends of the stove pipe together which may be readily placed in position or takenapart when desired and will eifectively hold the stove pipe sections from coming apart.
In describing the invention I claim 1. A" stove pipe joint'comprising in combinationwith a pair of stove pipe sections havingth'eir adjacent ends telescoped, and provided with alined openings, a fastening band encircling said telescoped ends and having itsends secured together, and projections slidably mounted on said band and adapted to engage the alined openings in the stove. pipe sections.
2. A stove pipe joint comprising in combination With a pair of Stovepipe sections having their adjacent ends telescoped and provided with alining openings, a fastening'band encircling said telescoped portions of the pipe sections, and strips of metal bent to encircle said. band and having their ends formed with lugs pressed together, said lugs engaging the alining openings aforesaid.
, In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
EDWVIN HAMMOND.
