I 5- INVENT R wmmzsgzs LBern/en I By E SA s PATENT OFFICE.
STOVEPIPE-COUPLING.
Application filed July 28, 1917, Serial No. 188,292.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LOUIS BERN'LER, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Montreal, Quebec, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stovepipe-Couplings, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to improvements in stove pipe couplings of the type in which a clip provided at one end of one section of the stove pipe is designed for engagement with a pin on the adjacent end of the next section, thus locking the two sections together; the object of the invention being to provide an extremely simple and effective coupling of [the character indicated which can be manufactured and ap- :plied at small cost.
With this object in view, the invention consists in the particular features of construction and arrangement set forth in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of two pipe sections secured together by the clips.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of one of the pipe sections.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged perspective view of one of the clips detached from the stove pipe.
Like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in each figure.
In the drawings, 1 and 2 are pipe sections, each of said sections being provided at one end with the pin 3 which is beveled on one side, and at the other end with a longitudinally-disposed clip 4. which is rigidly secured thereto by the rivets 5. The pin 3 is here shown independent from the stove pipe, but it could also be pressed out from said stove pipe and be integral therewith.
Each clip t consists of a metal strip, which is bent outwardly at 6 and then turned inwardly at 7 so as to form a U, and which is provided with an elongated, transverse slot 8 for engagement with the bevel pin 3 at the end of the adjacent section. It will be clearly understood that one clip only may be provided, without departing from the invention, although Fig. 2 discloses two clips and two pins on each section, disposed at equal intervals from one another.
Specification of Letters Patent.

Renewed January 16, 1919. Serial No. 271,511.
It will readily be seen that on slipping one pipe section on the other, the clips 4, which have a certain resilience, will be pressed outwardly by the beveled pins 3 until the said pins reach the slots 8, whereupon the clips snap into place when the pins enter said slots, the out-turned portions of the clips extending in front of the pins so as to actas guards therefor.
In order to disconnect or unlock said pipe sections, all that is necessary is to press said clips at outward so as to disengage said pins 3, and then pull apart both sections of pipe.
I claim 1. A pair of telescoping pipe sections, one section having a longitudinally-disposed, resilient clip which is secured to it and projects across the end of the other section, the projecting portion of the clip being bent outwardly and then turned inwardly to form a U, the inner member of which is provided with a slot; the said end of the other section having a laterally-projecting, beveled pin which is adapted to enter said slot when the ends of the two sections are telescoped, the outer member of the U-bend extending in front of and covering the pin end so as to constitute a guard therefor.
2. A pipe section unit provided adjacent one end with a laterally-projecting, beveled pin, and adjacent the other end with a longitudinally-disposed, resilient clip which is secured thereto at its inner end and has its free outer end bent outwardly and then turned inwardly to form a U, the inner member of which has a slot therein to receive the pin on the adjacent end of the next pipe section when the ends of the two sections are telescoped, the outer member of the U- bend extending in front of the inner member so as to cover the pin end and form a guard therefor.
Signed at Montreal, Quebec, Canada, this sixteenth day of March, 1917.
LOUIS BERNIEB.
